Republicans to call for probe of Pelosi
By Molly Hooper
Posted: 05/21/09 09:14 AM

House Republicans will call for a formal investigation into Speaker Nancy Pelosi's charge that the CIA lied to her, according to a senior GOP leadership aide.

A resolution to launch a bipartisan investigation into Pelosi's allegations that the CIA lied to her during a 2002 briefing over interrogation techniques will be offered by a member of the House GOP conference, the aide said.

“The Speaker has had a full week now to either produce the evidence or retract and apologize, and she's done neither. There is no choice now. A bipartisan investigation is needed to get to the facts,” a senior Republican aide told the Hill.

House GOP Leader John Boehner (Ohio) on Sunday said Pelosi should either apologize or provide evidence to back up her charges. Others have gone farther; former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said Pelosi should resign.

1. How can she produce evidence from a top-secret meeting where no one took notes?
And what is with the CIA clearly not having any evidence that makes sense?

How many people are backing her up on this now? Rockefeller, Graham, who else?

3. This is a hail mary pass by the rethugs...and a perfect moment for dems to frame the debate
as it should be: Why did BushCo torture in the first place. I'm sad to say I don't think the dems will take the moment, though, as usual, they'll give credibility to this red herring by actually taking it seriously.

Newt Gingrinch says? Oh please. :eyes:

4. Good. Fine with me. Let's investigate-- ALL OF IT
Frankly, although I'm not a huge fan of Pelosi, I cannot imagine that she would have put herself in this position if she wasn't coming from a place of truth here. But regardless- if she did know something- let's get it out there. But more importantly- whomever knew anything and was involved in these criminal acts, need to be brought to justice- PERIOD. All of them.

Boggles the mind that the GOP would be so stupid to demand an investigation into Pelosi but not realize how much other information is going to come out which is far worse - and directly related to the Bush crime family's illegal acts.

An investigation is exactly what we need.

5. Do the repubs want to shoot themselves in the foot?
Pelosi has called for all the records and documents to be made public and this stunt will just keep the
bad news of the actions of the bush admin and the repubs in front of everybody's eyes.

6. Good. They can also look into CIA destroying those tapes while
they're at it. And Tenet, too. Maybe we should ask about those secret prisons they said they closed and then, moved instead. There are a lot f things we could ask CIA about, including about 40 "missing" detainees.

If, during the probe, Pelosi is implicated, so be it.

13. Pelosi did not have any power to authorize any actions @ that time.
She was not speaker of the house until Jan. 2007 ..... this happened in 2002 and by law she was not
allowed to discuss what she heard in the meetings. This idea really is stupid on a stick.

12. That Sounds Like An Idea
Investigate all of the crooked things that Bush and his evil cronies did. Pelosi can stand up against it but their dirty asses will be fried in Constitutional and World law breaking oil. And it will stink.
Yes...Investigate.

16. This reminds me of the Valerie Plame situation
We got caught up in the details of the Plame affair when we really should have been looking into what created it: the cherry picking of intelligence to sell an unjust war like a new brand of toothpaste. The Pelosi situation is even more myopic.

Let's say for the sake of argument that Pelosi is as guilty as she could be, like she knew everything and lied all the way. What did she know and lie about? Oh yeah, WE FUCKING TORTURED PEOPLE. We need to deal with the original crimes, not their progeny.

17. Boom goes the dynamite!
There is no way that Pelosi will be the only one investigated. By opening this issue for a formal investigation, they have allowed the Dems to pull it wide open and expand the probe. They will come off looking like they have also sanctioned a whole investigation.

There is so much muddling over the CIA and what they have said, I don't think Pelosi will take a huge hit. In addition, there have been several instances where several Rethugs have called out the CIA too. How soon they forget. They think they are working the perfect issue against their most hated enemy.

Now is the time to close the trap and start looking closely at everything. If they don't, then they should be run out and Pelosi should be hung out to dry. This could be the beginning of the end of a long con that was set up. I'm hoping that is the case.

21. Dems are being owned, again
Meanwhile Cheney is making fun of the length of Obama's speech and preaching 9/11, 9/11, 9/11... Why aren't the dems investigating Cheney's interference with the CIA to get them to support the lies that he used to justify the invasion of Iraq? Why? Because Obama wants to "turn the page". Hillary would not be playing this foolish game.

The Dems should be all over this like white on rice. Hell yes, investigate Pelosi. And while we're fucking at it, how about bush*, cheney*, rice*, rumsferatu* and their ILLEGAL and IMMORAL war.
