Suspect supported killing abortion providers, friends say
Source: McClatchy News

The suspect in custody for the slaying of Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller was a member of an anti-government group in the 1990s and a staunch opponent of abortion.

Scott P. Roeder, 51, of Merriam, Kan., a Kansas City suburb, was arrested on Interstate 35 near Gardner in suburban Johnson County, Kan., about three hours after the shooting. Tiller was shot to death around 10 a.m. inside Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita.

In the rear window of the 1993 blue Ford Taurus that he was driving was a red rose, a symbol often used by abortion opponents. On the rear of his car was a Christian fish symbol with the word "Jesus" inside.

Those who know Roeder said he believed that killing abortion doctors was an act of justifiable homicide.

Read the article - lot of other interesting stuff on this MF'er. He's definitely a terrorist. Remember the RW's outrage that Homeland Security had warning in their report on the whacko portion of the Anti-abortionists? Well here's evidence that some of them are homegrown terrorists.

Edited on Sun May-31-09 11:26 PM by RandomThoughts
I would say your statement that he is part of the Army of God, at least as I think about it, is wrong.

But people falsly thinking that, is one of the reasons for his action.

8. I didn't know an organization was using that name. unbelievable.
Its hard enough to know when the little things we do in life are of the right spirit. Its a constant challenge to check your actions and try to think right and do right. To name an organization that is ridiculous, and I think that is being kind.

I am not saying lowering abortions is not a good thing, it makes sense in everyone's minds. But to make a claim of such a title for one specific agenda is really weird.

2. It is sad that the teachings of Jesus did not reach his heart.
Love thy enemy, Love thy neighbor, and many more thoughts.

I know there are many Christians that see actions like he did, by people saying they follow the teachings of Christ, as shameful and sad.

20. There are lots of Christians, but very few followers of Christ
I have little use for either, but I don't actively dislike the latter. Not that this has done me any good, I don't think I've ever met one IRL. everyone who fits the bill belongs to another faith.

I suppose being the majority religion goes to some folks' heads.

In a Lutheran Church of all places...just like the good doctor's. I was there for a friend's child's baptism. They were so friendly and loving and happy without being whacked out on crazy that I was even more pleasantly surprised at the end where an openly gay couple mentioned an outreach to the GLBT community at the end of the pride parade this week.

The church wasn't packed but it was diverse and they were sincerely "nice" folks...very odd for my jaded Catholic Agnostic ass...

If I could still believe I'd like to be with a church like them.

5. Nice of the people that knew this about him to warn anyone
I'll bet if they saw three Muslim men, or hell, even not-white men, talking together in a diner the authorities would be flooded with calls. I would bet money that these militant anti-choice groups recruit thier "martyrs" just like any Muslim extremist group does. They pray on the weak minded and easily led and once they have them in their thrall it just takes one little dog whistle to release the hounds.

what kind of description is that? Very wrong wing in my book. A doctor who performs abortions would be more accurate, but I would imagine that Dr. Tiller performed other medical practices as well.

23. Christians have been killing
people in the name of God since the beginning. After all it was Jesus that said;
"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." - Matthew 10:34

Jesus was just following the example set by his Father:

Deuteronomy 7:1-4 God, the father of Jesus and one third of the Trinity, ordered the Israelites to kill - animals, men, women, children, and women pregnant with a child (abortion of the unborn by killing the mother ordered by the same loving God as these pro-life nuts believe in).

So the believers flew an airplane into . . . sorry wrong story . . .

The believers invaded the city of Jericho:
And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword. Joshua 6:21

29. I lost a good job because I had a Darwin fish on my car.
Actually, I it had a Jesus fish on the driver's side when we bought it (just the fish, no name inside). I put a Darwin fish on the other side. My asshole boss was a Catholic. I never drove that car to work because my wife used it. Everything was fine until the day I had to use that car for some reason. After that, my asshole boss went cold. He wouldn't even meet with me. About a week later, I was "downsized".

There's no way I can prove it was motivated by his asshole religious beliefs, but I know it was. Asshole.

24. There may have been a conspiracy to commit murder
Edited on Mon Jun-01-09 06:12 AM by Mortos
A local news channel in Kansas reported that a house in Merriam (5044 Knox) was connected to the shooter Scott Roeder (FBI Confirmed the link between Roeder and the house on Knox - the car that he was driving was registerd to this address). The house, according to neighbors, had several men coming and going from it recently and apparent prayer vigils in front of it (Saturday, neighbors reported a group of men in some sort of religious ceremony). The house appears to be owned by a Kansas politician and lawyer.

Johnson County Election website shows the house belongs to:

Joe Kronawitter - Merriam - Democratic
5044 Knox, Merriam, KS 66203

I can't find anything on Mr. Kronawitter and nothing, other than the house, connects him to Roeder. But the house, which was shown on the tv stations newscast is, according to them, linked to Roeder.

The video report can be seen here:

If waterboarding is just peachy for "foreign terrorists", then it should be as American as apple pie, and baseball for "homegrown terrorists"....

40. I find it deplorable that it is always men who do these killings - the very gender that cannot have
an abortion, but yet, they seem to be the most vocal. I refuse to have an abortion debate with someone incapable of having one, i.e. men and 80 year old people. It has shocked quite a few people in a group when I say that. I tell me they have absolutely no skin in the game, and what they think really doesn't matter.

41. The Amerikkkan Christoban...equal to the Taliban
I hope he does NOT get the death penalty...that would be too easy on this freak. I want him to be held in a tiny cell for 23 hours a day for the rest of his life. I want him to feel the pain of incarceration every day. It isn't pretty. Only then will he maybe recognize that taking a life is taking a life no matter the circumstances.

Personally I think Operation Rescue and similar organizations should be labelled as domestic terrorist groups and placed under surveillance. Perhaps their leaders should be held in "preventive detention" at Gitmo, indefinitely since these same kooks think there is nothing wrong with detention without charge.
