Rush flips; may support Sotomayor
Source: Politico.com

After calling Judge Sonia Sotomayor a “reverse racist” last week, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday that he may now possibly support President Barack Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court.

“I can see a possibility of supporting this nomination if I can be convinced that she does have a sensibility toward life in a legal sense,” Limbaugh said during his show.

In justifying his flip, Limbaugh pointed out that Sotomayor is Catholic and “doesn't have a clear record on abortion.”

Hinting that Sotomayor could possibly support overturning Roe v. Wade, Limbaugh said “whoa, it would be huge.”

Cause without ad revenues he would lose his show. Greedy bastards like him never have enough money or even more critical to him - fame.

7. I doubt she'd vote against Roe
but she may vote for restrictions on abortion beyond what abortion rights activists would want. We just don't know because theres no record of what she really thinks about the issue.

Frankly, we don't know about what she thinks about a whole slew of civil liberty issues: free speech, privacy, police powers, separation of church and state....

This really should be an issue for liberals, but I think they're so occupied with defending her from conservatives that they are overlooking the possibility that she may be bad on other liberal issues.

10. I was disturbed
by a ruling of hers I saw on free speech... she basically said that school administrators (government employees) can take retributive action against what a student says when not in school and not on school property. Any clear reading of the First Amendment has to compel the ruling to go the other way.

16. I read about that too.
That does look like a bad anti-free speech decision to me. Nobody else seems to care about these things though, about her actual record. All that matters is that its us verses them.

I just think there are so many other liberal judges that we could be sure of where they stand on these issues (civi liberties). I think were taking a chance on Sotomayor. I'm concerned that she could turn out to be sort of "a reverse Souter" on some issues.

9. I do.
Because it may turn out that Sotomayor is bad on abortion rights.

Actually I doubt she' vote against abortion rights but I'm concerned that she may not be good on other civil liberties.

31. I dont know what you mean.
I'm not familiar with that story, or rather the meaning of it.

I think Limbaugh does actually have some real hope that she could turn out to be "semi conservative" on SOME issues. Some of it is him playing politics too and trying to worry liberals. But I think there is some reason to worry.

And I'm not the only one thats concerned. All you hear is whining from conservatives but there are a lot of liberals that are being quiet but are disappointed in this nomination. Because of some of her rulings but mostly because we dont have a very good idea what her judicial philosophy is. And there are alot other liberal judges that we do.

I think these liberals will speak out though during the hearings though.

is that the right is looking closer at her record and discovering she isn't that progressive. Her rulings have sited with big business more than it hasn't. It again proves the Obama isn't that progressive either.

32. I was wondering when they would get around to this
It clearly should be an issue to anyone concerned about Roe v Wade, I'm just surprised it has taken them this long to get past their initial knee-jerk reaction.

It is *we* who should be looking at her record very carefully.

Although I believe it's a done deal at this point anyway, the hearings will just be a formality.

34. This is pure BS that has nothing to do with Sotomayor's record...

...how progressive, or conservative she'll be, or Roe v Wade. The attack hogs (Newt & Rush) have finally been convinced of what really matters: The republicans are about to lose the Hispanic vote for the next 20 years.

Both Newt and Rush are merely trying to find some cover for their flip-flopping asses.

38. classic 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em' when he's losing his audience

money means nothing, it's his audience he covets - his little brains running around the country - and he figures being on the wrong side of every decision going on in Washington is not giving him any room to maneuver - better to jump in front of the parade and grab the baton than to get run over by it over and over - and the bonus is he gets to scare the liberals a bit along the way.

There supposed to be the party of small government but having the government dictate what you can and cannot do is big government. Small government would not be concerned with what people do to their bodies or with their bodies.
