GOP staffer chosen to head RIAA
http://news.com.com/2100-1027_3-5056299.html

The Recording Industry Association of America has tapped a former Republican Senate staffer to replace Hilary Rosen as chief executive, firming up the group's leadership during one of the most controversial moments in its history.

The big record labels' trade group said Monday that Mitch Bainwol, former chief of staff to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, will replace Rosen at the RIAA's helm. Rosen left the group several months ago, after announcing her planned departure in January.

Although Bainwol has little experience inside the music industry, he brings deep connections to the Republican Party, something the RIAA has largely lacked under Rosen's leadership.

The 'Fritz' chip will get pushed that much harder. This is a very, very bad thing.

Fritz chip + TCPA + Palladium = total monitoring of your PC.

Google the term if you don't agree. Each is a third portion of a single overall system designed to 'make sure' you never, ever posess unauthorized copyrighted material on your PC.

I ask again- are electrochemical copies considered under the influence of copyright law, and if so, are our memories not electrochemical copies, no matter how inadequate?

And to follow up, if there were a way to do so, would the RIAA require our memory of the concert or CD or whatever be erased- again, if it were possible?

4. Personally I think this whole thing will backfire....
People will simply stop buying music once they see the RIAA's heavy handed tactics. Music is surely something that people can life without. Nobody buys the music other than the fans.

6. In a Weird Way, This Could Be Good News
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 07:44 PM by Crisco
We've all seen the stories in the last two years about the pressure the White House mafia is putting on lobby groups to *not* hire Dems. You just know this guy is going to encourage the labels to donate heavily to Republican campaigns. If the labels suddenly aren't donating to Dems, this frees the Dems up to side with younger constituents against the labels.

come on baby, Rock that Vote
