First Guantanamo inmate arrives in U.S. for trial
Source: AP

U.S. authorities brought the first Guantanamo Bay detainee to the United States early this morning, flying him into New York to face trial for bombing U.S. embassies in Africa, a law enforcement official said.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of a lack of authorization to discuss the case, said Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani would be held in U.S. law enforcement custody until his trial in federal court in lower Manhattan.

Ghailani's trial will be an important test case for the Obama administration's plan to close the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in seven months and bring some of the suspects to trial.

Ghailani was indicted in 1998 in connection with the Al Qaeda bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, attacks that killed more than 224 people, including 12 Americans.

Guantanamo detainee arrives in US

Ahmed Ghailani has been transferred to face charges in a New York court over the 1998 US embassy bombings in East Africa, news agencies said.

Mr Ghailani, a Tanzanian, was seized in Pakistan in 2004.

He was one of 14 so-called "high-value detainees" moved from secret CIA prisons outside the US to Guantanamo in September 2006.

Mr Ghailani was indicted for the bombings of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania which killed more than 200 people.

4. OMB! THE EVIL ONES are landing on sacred American soil! YIKES!
The GOP considers EVERY GITMO Detainee/ part of an EVIL COVEN of EVIL-DOERS ... with special powers and shit. :eyes:

I'm disgusted with both of my Senators (Warner and Webb) for perpetuating the MYTH that our Prisons can't hold these men.
