1st Day for France Back in NATO Military Command

BRUSSELS - France returned June 11 to NATO's command fold, taking a seat for the first time in more than 40 years at the military alliance's defense planning committee.

At a meeting at NATO headquarters in Brussels, French Defense Minister Herve Morin took his place alongside the 28 NATO allies, along with ministers from new members Albania and Croatia.

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer welcomed Morin's participation as a symbol of "France's decision to recover its full place within the structures of NATO."

France has got :

the Allied Command Transformation (ACT) at Norfolk, USA
the Joint Command (rapid reaction force) at Lisbon (Portugal
the SACEUR representation to the Military Command at SHAPE, Brussels
the command of the J-5 ("capabilities, plans and policies") and "OPS support" (logistics) at SHAPE, Brussels
the Joint Force Command at Brunsumm, Netherlands, (Director of knowledge and management for Afghanistan)
the command of the Maritime Patrol, Northwood, UK

10 other general commands will be attributed up to 2012

the amount of superior officers and under officers will amount totally to 1250
