Congress Sends Obama Bill to Regulate Tobacco

By a 3 to 1 margin, the House of Representatives today approved a bill passed by the Senate yesterday that gives the federal government sweeping new powers to regulate tobacco.

President Obama hailed the bipartisan votes in Congress on the bill, which he said "truly defines change in Washington." He said he looks forward to signing it into law.

"This is the day when Americans can begin to truly kick the habit, with the full force of our laws marshaled to protect consumers, and especially our young people," said Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.), a key sponsor of the House version of the bill.

The House had already passed a nearly identical version of the bill in April, but leaders needed to ratify the Senate's action and called a vote today. The bill passed 307 to 97.

The article says that regulation will be by a new center within the FDA and financed by fees from the tobacco industry.

and I would also support similar regulations on marijuana if it were to ever be legalized.

5. 1200 die from tobacco daily, 1080 were addicted as children, 540 were 12 yrs old or younger...

, tobacco as a product is Dependant on child abuse, addicting children to replace the grown up addicts they addicted as children that they kill as adults.. evil loop cycle this is what we can use to prove that Corporate campaign contributions are bribes.. with deadly results to the citizens .

If not, what should be the official government endorsed means of death for which there is no penalty?
