Islamabad - A powerful blast tore through Pakistan's north-western town of Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday, killing up to eight people and injuring at least 20 more, officials said.

The explosion took place in a crowded market of the city which has seen several acts of violence in recent days.

'Eight people have been killed and at least 20 others wounded,' top civil administrator Mohsin Shah told the Express News television channel.

Shah said a planted device was used in the attack.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing, but local police chief Mohammad Iqbal suspected it could have been a response to the ongoing military action against the Taliban militants in Pakistan's north-west.

8 killed, 20 hurt in northwest Pakistan blast

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- A blast in a market in northwest Pakistan killed eight people and wounded 20 others Sunday, officials said.

The bomb exploded in the city of Dera Ismail Khan in the North West Frontier Province, said Syed Mohsan Shah, the district coordination officer in the city.

The attack was retaliation for the massive military offensive against Taliban militants in the region, the city's police chief said.

The bomb, containing about 5 to 6 kg (11 to 13 lbs) of explosives, was placed in a rickshaw, said Police Chief Iqbal Khan.

Officers have taken into custody three suspects, he said.

1. It's not deja vu. This is deja nu.
This is the Taliban's response to having the people turn against them - more violence against the people who turned against them because of their violence against the people. See the logic?

Apparently it is ONLY distance that separates the Taliban from our own right wingers: They share a policy of FAIL.
