MySpace to cut staff by a third
Source: BBC

MySpace, the social networking site, has said it will cut almost a third of its staff as it looks to cut costs to compete with increasing competition.

The cuts total about 400 staff, leaving 1,000 people at the struggling unit of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation.

MySpace said it wanted to return to the culture of a start-up company.

MySpace, which has about 125 million users, has been hit hard by the huge popularity of rival networking sites Facebook and Twitter.

2. try cutting about 1/2 the dancing animated ads
and enforce some standard on the customization and naming...

and get a decent search engine while you're at it. I can't find half the people I know because MS lets them change their name every 20 minutes and use all sorts of unsearchable ASCII as part of their name.

4. Meanwhile, Yahoo! just jumped in with an obvious FB knockoff of its own.
Complete with profiles, pics, etc.

I shouldn't complain; she who invited me to this dance describes herself as a "goddess"!! :bounce:

7. MySpace Flooded Staff With Cheap H-1Bs
Over a year ago I interviewed a MySpace refugee for a .NET developer job. He said the place had become a sweatshop, filled with low-wage Indian imports that were set up on card tables and crammed 4 to a cube.

Seriously?

How much must it suck to be unemployed and have 5,000 "friends".

In other news, RIM, the provider of Blackberry services reported an unexpected profit this quarter.

It might be a good time to leave MySpace and get a RIM job instead.
