Obituaries - Fayette Pinkney, of the 3 Degrees
Source: Philly Inquirer

By Walter F. Naedele
Inquirer Staff Writer

There were eight girls in and out of the Three Degrees in the trio's first nine months.

...

Fayette Pinkney knew how to make those sacrifices at 17, enough that from 1965 to 1976, she knew national fame as one of the original Three Degrees.

On Saturday, Miss Pinkney, 61, of Lansdale, died of acute respiratory failure at Lansdale Hospital.

In a statement, Philadelphia International Records founders Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff said Miss Pinkney and the Three Degrees "were our Philly sound version of Motown's Supremes - but bigger and stronger and melodic."

Another one goes down for real...

The Three Degrees were in the film "The French Connection" and were famous for the song "When Will I See You Again".

1. Damn.
That is such a great song.

The Three Degrees also sang the vocals toward the end of "TSOP," the Soul Train theme of the '70s. Although she may not have been involved with that, I suspect she was because it must have been recorded about that time.

8. My thoughts exactly.
:scared:

I still have my 45 of "When will I see you again". TSOP founders Gamble & Huff have been trying to get a R&B Hall of Fame opened here in Philly and I hope that these last couple of passings of singers who recorded through them (including MJ) and the recent honoring of the O'Jays at the BET Awards, might prompt them to move a little faster with that effort.

R.I.P.

4. "When Will I See You Again" was a beautiful song.
Still one of my all-time favorites, I always listen to it when it's played on the radio or Sirius. The harmonizing was perfect, and I loved the lush combination of strings and disco beat. First class all the way.

RIP. We do seem to be losing a lot of celebrities lately.
