SC attorney general calls for investigation of gov
Source: Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina's attorney general is asking for an investigation into Gov. Mark Sanford's travels after he admitted seeing his mistress more times than previously disclosed.

Attorney General Henry McMaster said Tuesday he has requested the State Law Enforcement Division to review all of Sanford's travel records to see if any laws have been broken.

Sanford admitted in an interview with The Associated Press to more encounters with his Argentine mistress than he previously has disclosed.

The governor described seven meetings with the woman, including their first in 2001. Sanford says there have been five over a 12-month period, including two multi-night stays with her in New York.

1. Sanford, the GOP gift that keeps giving
He's delivered something entertaining everyday. This must go a lot deeper than just affairs. There must be some financial corruption or something illegal not just illicit to bring on an investigation. I can't help it. This has become my favorite reality show. I can keep up with it without a lot of time investment, the plot twists happen quickly and it's so bad it's good.

2. S.C. Attorney General to review Sanford's travel records

From Peter Hamby
CNN

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) -- The attorney general of South Carolina on Tuesday asked the state law enforcement division to review Gov. Mark Sanford's travel records after the governor admitted to more visits with his mistress than previously disclosed.

"In light of the governor's disclosure of additional travel today, I have requested that SLED conduct a preliminary review of all Governor Sanford's travel records to determine if any laws have been broken or any state funds misused," Attorney General Henry McMaster said in a statement.

After returning last week from a secret trip to Argentina that his staff and wife didn't know about, the Republican governor admitted to an extramarital affair and said he had seen his mistress three times in the past year.

But he told The Associated Press on Tuesday he had met with Maria Belen Chapur seven times, including five visits in the past 12 months. Sanford also told the AP he'd "crossed lines" with other women, although Chapur was the only one he had sex with.

Gov. Mark Sanford has said it's better for him to keep his governorship to "learn lessons." Ummmm ... shouldn't failing your lessons in an elected position mean sitting in the corner with :dunce: on ?

3. What's weird is that half Democratic Party was ready to lynch Blagojavich, a Democrat, but
no one even hints at impeachment for this worthless piece of shit.

Democrats couldn't wait to get rid of one of their own, but when it's a Republican, all you hear is the silence of the lambs.

4. Hopefully, Sanford will continue to self destruct
More lies today...the people of SC need to help get him out though. If the Dems try to do it, the Repubs just cry and whine about Poor Mark the Victim. And it backfires. Dems just can't play that game (except on their own, sometimes).

I kinda wondered why the guy was *that* emotional after a mere 3 rendezvous. So no surprise it's more. And maybe a lot more...he just needs to resign and go away.

5. Sanford misappropriating a relatively small amount of money
is definitely a terrible crime, but Blagojevich's crime was way way way worse. That said, your point is well taken.

9. The Democratic Party should take that "misappropriation of a small amount of money,"
add in fuckload of hypocrisy, and shove it so far up the Republicans' collective asses that they begin to taste it in their collective mouths.

First on the CNN Ticker: Calls mount for Sanford to step down
Source: CNN

Posted: 06:41 PM ET

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) — Three more Republicans in the South Carolina state legislature spoke out against Mark Sanford on Monday and said the best thing for the governor to do in the wake of last week’s scandal is resign.

At a local Chamber of Commerce breakfast in Cherokee County, GOP House members Lanny Littlejohn, Dennis Moss and Steve Moss each told the audience that Sanford has lost the credibility to steer the state’s economy through the final 18 months of his term following revelations of an extramarital affair.

Reached by phone, each legislator confirmed their comments at the breakfast. All argued that Sanford has simply become too much of a distraction for the state and can no longer devote his full attention to the troubled economy. South Carolina has the third highest unemployment rate in the nation.

“When business leaders start moving to South Carolina, they want to see somebody they can have confidence in,” Littlejohn told CNN. “If you lie to your family and you lie to your friends, you lie to anyone.”

7. Nothing quiet here
The Repugs and their holier than though bullshit has just hit a brickwall. This guy used government resources to carry on his affair....he should resign or be fired and then prosecuted for whatever laws he broke. I hope his wife leaves his ass broke....just like he came into their relationship.
