PARIS (AFP) – Heart attack survivors who eat chocolate two or more times per week cut their risk of dying from heart disease about threefold compared to those who never touch the stuff, scientists have reported.

It had also shown that chocolate cuts the rate of heart-related mortality in healthy older men, along with post-menopausal women.

But the new study, led by Imre Janszky of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, is the first to demonstrate that consuming chocolate can help ward off the grim reaper if one has suffered acute myocardial infarction -- otherwise known as a heart attac

16. Hot chocholate helps my stomach aches
I notice when I have one of those really bad stomach aches that a think cup of hat chocholate can almost completely neutralize it. (The thicker the better)

12. Of course ...
That is why chocolate will now be forbidden if you are over sixty-five! Hwahahahaa!

In seriousness, I'll have to tell my mom about this. She's a survivor, and I'm fairly certain she likes chocolate. Her son sure does. :)

11. Ummmm...
But codeine soothes the screaming tissues, muscles and nerves so you can effectively cough up the stuff in your lungs that leads to bronchitis and pneumonia. With Guaifenesin (Waltussin original not DM) I effectively and quickly rid my lungs of the congestion and have no need to cough.

My Aunt had bronchitis for weeks at a time her whole life until I told her about this and she now needs two doses of a teaspoon of Guifennesin with codeine for one day 8 hours apart when the congestion starts and she does not go into bronchitis. I looked at her bottle and it was filled in February 2008.

However tickle coughs in your throat or asthma need something else.

What idiot in the FDA decided that cough syrup was only effective if it blocked all coughing?:banghead:

5. I also hear a little dark chocolate can minimize your appetite - and is full of goodies

isn't life great - when wine and chocolate are good for you? (sigh)

6. This is one example of a nutritional supplement unlikely to be sold in a"pill" form.
People would not eat carrots, so we got Beta Carotene pills which are ineffective compared to natures version.

However, everyone will be willing to eat some chocolate "for the health benefits".

Great news!

24. It's turning into that scene in Sleeper.
Where the future scientists are discussing Woody Allen's former job in a health food store.

"You mean there was no hot fudge? No deep fat?"

"No, these things were thought to be BAD for you. Exactly the opposite of what we now know."

25. I remember that! But one thing to keep in mind...
When they say chocolate is good for you- they DON't mean Hersheys, Nestles, blah, blah, they mean dark chocolate(organic hopefully), light on the sugar, with no additives like that waxy shit they put in reg. choc.bars.. they mean choc in its purest form.

26. Usually 70% cacao and above
is what is tested. It's darker and less sweet than even bittersweet chocolate. At that rate, it tastes more like a savory food than a candy, IMO.

Also that it's starting to look like margarine was worse for you than butter was all along.

29. Wow
Can I tell my diabetes doctor to let me eat all the chocolate I want?

More importantly, can I use the receipts for chocolate as a medical necessity?

On second thought, I think I will go grab a Hershey's bar and a glass of chocolate milk for dinner!
