Georgian troops are to resume combat training with United States military advisers for the first time since the war with Russia last year.

US Marine instructors will arrive in Georgia on Monday to prepare a Georgian battalion for counter-insurgency operations in Afghanistan next year.
Washington consulted with Moscow over the military training to avoid Russian accusations of US military support to Georgia.
"Georgia wants to be part of the international effort in Afghanistan. We want to help them get ready," said a Pentagon spokesman.
"It is not designed to get them ready for any internal defence. We have been very forthright with our Russian counterparts about what we are doing."
