Sen. R.C. Soles (D-N.C.) shoots one of two home intruders

Source: Wilmington Star-News

Sen. R.C. Soles shot one of two people who were breaking into his home about 5 p.m. Sunday, officials said.

Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten said Kyle Blackburn was taken to Loris Community Hospital in South Carolina, though he did not know the extent of his injuries.

The shooting occurred on Soles’ property in Tabor City when two men went to the senator’s house and tried to kick in his front door, Batten said.

... The State Bureau of Investigation is probing the shooting, Batten said, because the agency is already looking into accusations against the senator.

A man accused Soles of attempting to molest him, leading authorities to ask the SBI to investigate. The man later said his allegation was false.

16. He might have had a pattern of not being there at that time
At church, for example.

Some burglars specialize in kick-and grab break-ins that occur about the time that schools let out... because the parents are out picking up their kids.

should seek another line of work.

4. poorly written story, imo
I read this last sentence and thought, this can't really be the end of the story can it?

A man accused Soles of attempting to molest him, leading authorities to ask the SBI to investigate. The man later said his allegation was false.

7. My NC Newspaper said today that he's supposedly molested young boys in the past
and he's in his late 70's. This incident seems to have happened after the NC Newspaper broke the story about him molesting young boys. :-(

8. And on our news tonight
they said one man was shot after an altercation. This seems to have a lot more detail than we had a few minutes ago.

13. Self-defense is a personal problem. When attacked & seconds count, police are minutes or hours away.

If these guys really were intruders then good on him.

But from what I read I sort of have my doubts.

I don't think we've heard the end of this one.

18. Actually, it sounds
Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 11:35 PM by billh58
like Soles knows the two men. From the linked article:

The other man involved in the incident is B.J. Wright, Batten said. Multiple media outlets have reported that Wright was a legal client of Soles – an attorney – and that Soles gave him money while Wright was in prison.

It doesn't sound as if "burglary" was the motive. Lovers' quarrel...?

20. There's a lot more to this and it has been going on a while
Edited on Mon Aug-24-09 08:05 AM by WilmywoodNCparalegal
A month or so ago, a 17-year-old's house burned to the ground in Tabor City, NC, about 1 hour or so east of Wilmington. Turns out this kid's house was paid for by RC Soles. Turns out arson is suspected. This kid, who is only 17 and has no parents or other guardians, was also provided with a stipend and a Corvette by RC Soles. Apparently, all transactions were made in cash. This kid is one of RC Soles' clients (he is a practicing attorney).

A local station, WWAY, has been really doing a good job trying to get to the bottom of this story and other allegations that have surfaced about RC Soles, mostly involving young men who are clients of his and for whom he provides a lot of financial support. One of these young men made the sexual molestation allegation which he later retracted. People who live in and around Tabor City, as well as the larger Wilmington area, have suspected something about RC Soles for a very long time.

Moreover, during an over-the-phone interview with a WWAY reporter, which was replayed several times, once the reporter asked RC Soles questions regarding the alleged arson at the kid's house, all of the sudden RC Soles is unable to hear the reporter, in an almost comical fashion, and eventually hangs up.

Check out www.wwaytv3.com for more details.

RC Soles has had altercations with his clients/proteges before. There is no doubt that there's something going on. Indeed, the SBI (State Bureau of Investigation) is also involved.

The rumors that he likes young men (not a pedophile but an ephebophile) are rampant and have been going on for several years.

24. Good thing he was armed. Contrary to what you might read,
most police are great folks; however, when seconds count, they are only minutes away.
