GOP opts against new Grayson resolution Tuesday
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) – House Republicans will not offer a resolution Thursday asking that Rep. Alan Grayson be condemned for charging that the GOP health care plan calls for those who get sick to die quickly, but Republicans did not rule out taking future action against the controversial Florida Democrat.

"No resolution will be introduced today. Mr. Grayson's actions on the floor were an embarrassment to this Congress and warrant an apology both to his colleagues and, more importantly, to the people of his district who he insulted on the House floor," said Brendan Buck, a spokesman for Georgia Rep. Tom Price, who chairs the Republican Study Committee.

"It is the job of the Speaker to ensure the House runs with proper decorum, and we would hope that she would not tolerate such behavior. As Mr. Grayson has shown no remorse for his antics, we have called on the Speaker to take the appropriate action to resolve this matter. Any future decision on a resolution will rest on the ability of the Speaker to control her members."

1. Oh, and promoting "death panels" and "pulling the plug on Grandma"
was GOP civility? What hypocrites.

18. That's right. Quite a few rotten Republicans would have to apologize first.
But let this be a lesson to the Democrats. See how brazen the GOP continue to be-- even though their people have said far worse things. And QUIT APOLOGIZING every time they use their many outlets in our conservative-dominated media to condemn more Democrats.

President Obama has his own reasons for trying bipartisan outreach even though we all know the Republicans abandoned bipartisanship way back in the 90's at least. That doesn't mean all other Democrats should now follow suit. They can let our president take the high road while they tell it like it is.

No more tossing Van Joneses and ACORNs under the bus. The GOP is moving on to target SEIU next-- bashing the janitors and other service employees' union because they've been so active in supporting Democrats and Democratic causes. They're targeting ACORN because they empower the poor to register to vote and navigate our leaky social safety nets. Most of our legislators let the Bush-Cheney gang avoid prosecution for torture by singling out "a few bad apples" when the horrifying Abu Ghraib photos came to light-- yet ACORN is to be de-funded because they had a few bad apples giving bad advice? How does that compute?

GOP campaign strategies are out in public now. See their plans to defeat health reform exposed in the latest issue of Rolling Stone. They are proudly manipulating vulnerable angry people just to protect private corporate profits. They have been playing hardball for quite a while now and need a strong opposition, not obedient wimps who shirk at every challenge and compromise their best ideas before debates have even begun (such as tossing out single payer).

I really hope Grayson and the more polite Anthony Weiner have started a trend that will continue. Tell the truth. In Weiner's case that meant speaking up about expanding Medicare as an effective public option. He was quite engaging as he spoke honestly about the efficiency of Medicare vs private health insurance. We need more Democrats to step forward to talk honestly about the suffering of their constituents as well as the benefits of progressive ideas.

I also appreciate the great work Grayson has done in calling more attention to the fraud and corruption in the privatization of military services-- a.k.a. war profiteering that really amped up during the Bush-Cheney Gang Rule.

3. And once again, the Republicans get it wrong, wrong, wrong.
The true statement is:

"The Republican members actions on the floor have been an embarrassment to this Congress and warrant an apology both to their colleagues and, more importantly, to the American people who they have insulted on the House floor..."

If anyone needs to apologize for their actions, it's The Republican Party. They are an affront to justice and democracy.

For one, it was destined to fail.

Second, any Dem voting for it should be called out.

Hope he hits all the cable shows this week and keeps up the pressure.
I know a lot of people don't know him and I hope they get a chance.
He made a name for himself during his campaign last Nov by running ads against military waste and overspending.
He has good instincts. He wears boots.
Go Grayson.

To most people, he looks like a kook. The more kooks which get airplay on the Democratic side, the better for them, because it takes away airtime from the more constructive members of the party.

Or pulled the rug out from under their attempted distraction. Either way, the end result is they've being forced to slink off quietly and admit defeat.

37. We need a Democratic resolution instead-- to call out GOP Sedition.
When I was trying to decide what to call Jim DeMint's treasonous plan to visit and encourage the coup that ousted duly-elected President Zelaya of Honduras, I learned the proper term for GOP conduct since President Obama has been elected-- Sedition. The fact that the GOP and their angels have paid to have professionals incite sedition in "genuine grass roots groups" makes their practices all the more dangerous to our republic.

The difference between sedition and treason consists primarily in the subjective ultimate object of the violation to the public peace. Sedition does not consist of levying war against a government nor of adhering to its enemies, giving enemies aid, and giving enemies comfort. Nor does it consist, in most representative democracies, of peaceful protest against a government, nor of attempting to change the government by democratic means (such as direct democracy or constitutional convention).

Sedition is the stirring up of rebellion against the government in power. Treason is the violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or state, giving aid to enemies, or levying war against one's state. Sedition is encouraging one's fellow citizens to rebel against their state, whereas treason is actually betraying one's country by aiding and abetting another state.
