Harkin Says No Republicans at the Table
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA), chairman of the Senate health committee, said Republicans "will not be at the table when the Senate merges the health-care bills from two committees before sending one to the floor," the Des Moines Register reports.

Said Harkin: "No, this will be a proposal by the Democrats to bring a bill on the floor. And that's what I have said before, that the people of this country -- I keep saying -- the people of this country pretty overwhelmingly elected Barack Obama last fall and to make changes. The people of this country overwhelmingly elected Democrats to the House and Senate."

33. KO was talking about the bill last night
about how someone (no one can say for sure) put a stipulation in the bill that would "force" people to buy corporate insurance--or the consequences could be jail. KO made a remark like at least they'll have medical care in jail. That better not be in the bill--I trust a public option and am willing to pay higher medicare fees on paycheck than have to be forced to go to a for profit greedy corporate entity. Let's say that I'm trusting a government program way more than a bunch of greedy asshats who choose who gets care and who doesn't and what treatment is deemed experimental and what is not (just so they don't have to pay for such treatment). My FIL and MIL already have to pay secondary insurance that takes most of his retirement check. I can see millions of people forced to buy bogus insurance that won't pay for anything--with a very high deductible because they can't afford to buy premium insurance. People who have lost their jobs, people that now have substandard jobs because of today's economy. They better not have that in this so-called health reform plan.

Why don't those of us who want single payer or public option have a choice? They're always talking about people's corporate insurance choice, why don't we have a choice? I mean corporate war profiteers have done such a bang up job servicing our soldiers in Iraq--privatizing is just so competent and they really, really do serve their customers. :sarcasm: If they could take your money without providing a service or providing an inadequate service, they'd do it in a heartbeat. Because, their sole existence is for profit, that's it, PROFIT!

20. God! FINALLY the GOP is being paid back.
It's been such a long time since Democrats have actually stood up to the bullying Republicans.

If they keep it up and show the Republicans how idiotically helpless they really are, the GOP will have to start thinking and actually trying to do it's job if they are going to have any chance of being involved in government at all.

And all this lying and attempting to incite riots and assassinations will have to be stopped by the GOP.

But only if the Democrats truly stand up and hold them responsible.

36. Enough humoring the GOP and their sedition. Medicare for all who want it !!
Jim deMint gong to Honduras to support the military coup that ousted the duly elected Zelaya is treason. What the GOP has been doing since President Obama was elected is sedition and should not be rewarded any more.

The difference between sedition and treason consists primarily in the subjective ultimate object of the violation to the public peace. Sedition does not consist of levying war against a government nor of adhering to its enemies, giving enemies aid, and giving enemies comfort. Nor does it consist, in most representative democracies, of peaceful protest against a government, nor of attempting to change the government by democratic means (such as direct democracy or constitutional convention).

Sedition is the stirring up of rebellion against the government in power. Treason is the violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or state, giving aid to enemies, or levying war against one's state. Sedition is encouraging one's fellow citizens to rebel against their state, whereas treason is actually betraying one's country by aiding and abetting another state.
