Cardinal Egan targets gay marriage (Could Lead to People Marrying Pets)
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Cardinal Edward Egan and the state's Roman Catholic bishops told lawmakers Tuesday that marriage must remain a bond between a man and a woman for the good of society.

"Marriage is not just a government issue," said Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, a lead spokesman in Tuesday's annual lobbying day at the Capitol by the Catholic Conference of New York.

DiMarzio said allowing gay marriage could lead _ if taken to the absurd _ to marriage between pets and three or more people.

"It could be anything once you say marriage is something other than what it is," DiMarzio said.

It is legal for a man to have sex with animals already..
As long as the animal in question is under 40 pounds.

Hypocrites!!!

By his logic, my dog is my common law pet / spouse.

4. If marriage is not a government issue, why do we need licenses?
Not to mention someone has got to explain informed consent to the Cardinal. I can understand how the Catholic hierarchy might not grasp the concept but, still, it's time.

8. Well you have to understand
that while homosexuality is wrong to these people, raping young boys is a-okay; if it wasn't then the Pope would have done something about it long ago. What I'm getting at here is that they are fucking insane and you cannot rationalize the truth with these type of people.

15. Exactly what part of Canon law permits this, hmmm?
None of that mess was permitted by the Church. Just the American variety that has become a playground for creeps that took it over long ago.

29. Don't ask me, ask the Bishop of Rome
Why does he allow priests to get away with molestation of children? FWIW, Catholicism in America is still part of the Church (unless I missed the memo).

9. No, state-sanctioned marriage IS JUST a government issue.
Whether or not religions recognize state-sanctioned marriages is up to the religions.

But Egan's probably afraid that too many more marriages to pets would turn out better than do church-sanctioned marriages. ;-)

12. Hey Egan...
Egan, you fucking piece of garbage.... marriage is a right between two consenting adults, be it man/woman, man/man, or woman/woman. So you wish to deny two consenting adults happiness, and compare it to beastiality? How godly of you.

Plus, it's not like you can ask a goat if he chooses to marry the guy sticking it to him. Since they can't talk back, beastiality is rape... but I'm sure the Cardinal wouldn't know anything about that, would he?

Can't have the law changed allowing Priests to marry 10-y-o boys, can we?

Oh, bullshit! What is keeping like people marrying farm animals and their pets NOW? Hell, to apply this twisted "logic", as long as it was determined that my fish was a female, I could marry her. Or I could marry a female crawdad.

How is stating that marriage is allowed between 2 people of legal age, irrespective of sex or gender going to lead to anybody marrying anybody?

THIS is all they can come up with to "defend" STR8 marriage? "People might want to marry sheep if we allow gay marriage..."

They're really grabbing at straws, aren't they?

Look at ME! Perfect defender for STR8-only marriage! I like marriage SO much, I've done it TWICE! Shit, I'll even try for THREE! if it doesn't work out, 45 days and $500 to some lawyer puts me right back out into the gene pool, so don't weep my darlin's, you might get a hump on me yet!

Dumbass Taliborn-agains...

23. So, same-sex attracted people
are equal in value to pets in terms of status. DiMarzio's statement indicates he considers homosexuals as less than second-class citizens.
From God's lips to your ear, DiMarzio...honor humanity.

26. Yup, seekthetruth, Last time I checked
The two parties in a marriage needed to be able to consent to a contractual arrangement.

I'm not sure how many goats and ferrets this amounts to, but if they can do it, I guess gay marriage will lead to being able to marry pets. Until then

let's just leave the issue to those who can give consent.

27. So, to marry my dog, would legal age be in dog years or people years?
biggest problem with these righteous types weighing in is when they say stupid shit like this. Never mind all the alterboys you diddled - oh wait!? you didn't want to marry them.

Hmm, priests can't get married, marriage is only for women, too many homosexual priests in the clergy - this could lead to a mass exodus of gay priests leaving, which would severly impact the bottom line collections for good works.

31. Marriage: "What's Love Got to Do With It?"
If we're going to have laws based on religion,
let's do it right!

I support a Constructional Amendments
to define marriage as it is in the Bible:

AMENDMENT XXIX.
No state may sanction marriage between
a man and a woman who was married
previously but has since divorced
(Matthew 5:32).

AMENDMENT XXX.
No state may sanction marriage involving
a widow (unless it is to her brother-in-law-
see amendment 34). All women whose husbands
have passed away are to refrain from intimacy
and pleasure for the remainder of their lives
(1 Timothy 5:5-15).

AMENDMENT XXXI.
No state may sanction marriage between
people of different races
(Deuteronomy 7:3; Numbers 25:6-8; 36:3-9; 1
Kings 11:2; Esra 9:2; Nehemiah 13:25-27).

AMENDMENT XXXII.
No state may sanction marriage between
a Christian and a non-believer;Christian
(2 John 1:9-11; 2 Corinthians 6:14-17).

AMENDMENT XXXIII.
No state may sanction marriage involving a man who
has had sexual thoughts about a woman other than
the one he intends to marry
(Matthew 5:28).

AMENDMENT XXXIV.
No state may sanction marriage between a man
whose brother has passed away and any woman
other than his brother's widow. Each state must
require the brother of a deceased man to marry
his brother's widow
(Deuteronomy 25:5-10).

AMENDMENT XXXV
No state may sanction marriage between a man
and any woman unwilling to promise in her wedding
vows to obey her husband and submit to his every whim
(Ephesians 5:22-24; 1 Corinthians 11:3; Colossionas 3:18;
1 Timothy 2:11-12; Titus 2:3, 5; 1 Peter 3:1).

AMENDMENT XXXVII
No state may sanction marriage in which the
wedding ceremony is to occur during the woman's
menstrual cycle unless the prospective spouses agree to
refrain from intimate relations until the woman's period of
uncleanness has terminated
(Leviticus 18:19, 20:18; Ezekiel 1825-6).

AMENDMENT XXXVIII
No state may sanction marriage between a minister
and any woman other than a virgin
(Leviticus 21:13-14).

AMENDMENT XXXIX
No state may sanction marriage between a rapist and
any woman other than his victim. States must require
a rapist to marry his victim (Deuteronomy22:28-29)
unless the victim failed to cry out, in which case the
rapist is relieved of this obligation
(Deuteronomy 22:23-24).

AMENDMENT XXXX
No state may sanction marriage between a man
and an aggressive or contentious woman
(Proverbs 21:9, 21:19, 25:24, 27:15).
