Durbin amendment to S14, the Energy bill |
|
Establishes 40 mile per gallon standard for cars and light trucks by 2015 and Would establish a 27.5 mile per gallon standard for other vehicles by 2015.
Why would Dems like Feingold and Stabanow vote against this?
IMO, if American car makers don't compete with Honda and Toyota making hybrids, they will be dinosaurs relatively quickly.

3. against the Durbin amendment not the whole bill |

. Now voting on Levin/Bond amendment....not good.
Actually any amendment with Bond attached to it is suspect.

6. Levin/Bond amendment - 66 yeas |

amendment passed.
Recommending higher standards to the Transportation Dept. is kinda like recommending kids don't eat candy.

4. Levin and Stabenow=MI=automakers=autoworkers |

I don't like the amendment at all, and think that Detroit would actually compete far more effectively if they had to race to meet the Durbin standards.

7. I wouldn't be suprised to see Carper vote against this |
|
which pisses me off. But we have a couple of Auto Plants here in DE and as an ex-governor of DE I swear they have him in his pocket.
We have the technology to make our cars more efficient and yet we never do so!

8. He voted yes, Biden voted no |

Carper is very pro-environment. He is a leader on a bill with Lincoln Chafee, Judd Gregg, and Lamar Alexander that is trying to improve the environment (Gregg and Chafee vote yes as well). It is very much opposed by the Bush Administration, but it is gaining some steam in Congress. It is probably doomed because the Environment Commitee chairman is Jim Inhofe who hates the environment. But Carper seems pretty good on the environment even though he is more moderate on other issues.
Unfortunately, your other senator isn't as pro-environment. Maybe, Biden is the real pawn of the Delaware auto industry.
