Senator urges Obama: Don't start enemies list
Source: Reuters.com

A top Republican invoked the memory of the scandal-marred Nixon administration on Wednesday to urge U.S. President Barack Obama to "back up" and not "start an enemies list".

-snip-

Alexander cited as examples the Obama administration's suggestion that it may support stripping the insurance industry of its exemption of federal anti-trust laws, its clash with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the president saying he will call out people who oppose him and boycott Fox News network.

1. If the Obama Administration started an Enemies List with say Beck and/or Limbaugh,
they'd love it. Like the WH giving them perpetual copy for their programs. In their minds, a badge of honor.

6. I hope some Democratic senators respond when he gives his floor speech
with examples from the Bush Gang-- screening participants in its town halls, ejecting people who wore the wrong T-shirts, promoting Jeff Gannon, excluding news outlets that gave them honest coverage, etc.

10. or as soon as republicans stop
Edited on Wed Oct-21-09 11:37 AM by BlancheSplanchnik
bankrupting americans
killing doctors
forcing women into pregnancy and dangerous, back alley abortions.
propagandizing the media
lieing
working in cahoots with corporatists to subjugate citizens

etc

(I noticed the headline on Yawhoot, and just got so pissed. The usual bullshit games, make a twisted, leading statement that has nothing to do with the true comploexities of a situation, then hit the headlines with it. Spoogebags.)

13. Here is where you get it all wrong

All things you mention is something republicans really do ..... and that is not how the strawman argument is constructed.

Start with something so outrageous that even Republicans do not support it( Although I admit - finding such a thing can be quite hard) ... and ask them not to do/support it.

28. ah... I see what you mean.
Hrmmmm.....

BUT!
If you consider "blunt object" as a metaphor for the hateful strategies the holier than thou-s use to bludgeon the rest of us, and "little old ladies" as representative of all of us being bludgeoned by pukesters' said strategies........, then your argument becomes descriptive of the truth too.......

(hey I'm tryin' here....)

:D

8. So Sen Alexander wants Obama to be a wimp that doesn't call anybody out
I seem to recall that is the advice that was given to Sen Kerry in August 2004. It didn't work out so well for him.

11. So when is Alexander going to take the American People off his enemies' list?
The good Senator would keep the peoples' health hostage to an immoral, illogical, dysfunctional, for profit, "health" insurance industry, racket; which contributes nothing to actual health care while also operating as a trust or monopoly!?

Alexander would support an industry organization intent on fighting the best available scientific evidence warning our society; that global warming climate change represents a growing clear and present danger; which will only increase in intensity and destruction. Does this betrayal not make the American People at large an enemy to Alexander?

The way I remember it Nixon's enemies' list was secret just like his attempted wire tapping; of the opposition political party, something of which later Bush the Least would greatly eclipse. Alexander would be wise to brick his own filthy glass house before casting stones.

President Obama is openly stating his views for the all world to see, the "health" insurance industry does operate as a trust, the Chamber of Commerce does work to deny the effects of global warming, climate change; ironically screwing them selves in the long run along with the American People and FOX "News" is nothing but blatant propaganda posing as a news network. To deny this is to deny reality.

Thanks for the thread, stubtoe.

12. Reminds me of the definition of chutzpah as...
...killing your parents and then throwing yourself on the mercy of the court because you're an orphan.

But Alexander is adopting GOP standard operating procedure here -- projection, projection, projection. It's his party, not ours, that gave us the only president forced to resign.
