Girl's body found in North Carolina, police say

The body of a missing 5-year-old girl has been found in North Carolina, police said Monday.
Earlier Monday, about 200 people searched for the body of Shaniya Davis after "reliable information" indicated that she might be dead, Fayetteville, North Carolina, police said.
The search focused on land near a roadway because "reliable information received that the body of Shaniya Davis may have been dumped there," the Fayetteville Police Department said in a statement.
Investigators had been searching for Shaniya for several days.

because she had supposedly cleaned up her act and had a home for the child. He and his family looked devastated by the horrible turn of events. He says the child was the result of a one night stand. I think he is beating himself up plenty today. Poor guy.

especially with surveillance images like this. I worked with the foster family of a little girl who had this done to her. Her foster parents took her on a vacation trip for the holidays, and she had a very difficult time when they took her into a motel.

Nobody rescued Shaniya.

22. We had a somewhat similar case in CT some years back. A mother or aunt of 2 young girls

allowed them to be molested by the mayor of Waterbury, Phil Giordano. It was a coincidence that at the time the FBI was wiretapping him on suspicion of fraud and happened to intercept his phone calls making the arrangement for the girls to be dropped off at his office. The woman in question was a drug addict. I don't know what happened to her but Giordano was taken into custody so fast that we were all stunned. He's gonna be in jail for a long time. I wish it could be a life sentence. It's just a wonder he hasn't been murdered yet...

Your post makes it sound like prisons are coddling inmates convicted of sex crimes. That's not the case. Inmates are not supposed to know offense information of other inmates. Prisons don't go around putting up public lists of who got convicted for what--it's nothign special about sex offenders.

And, yes, if an inmate is endangered because he has been outed as a sex offender, it is the prison's obligation to protect him.

As for sex offenders being "allowed to just keep getting out," well, yes, that's what happens when you do your time. As for your acquaintance who is now out, why do you presume he will molest more? I suggest you look at the recidivism statistics for sex offenders; they're actually better than for many other offenders.

The body of 5-year-old Shaniya Davis was found alongside a North Carolina highway near her hometown, according to Raleigh ABC affiliate WTVD.

Shaniya had been missing for nearly a week. Her mother, Antoinette Davis, 25, was due in court today on charges of human trafficking and child prostitution.

Fayetteville Police spokewoman Theresa Chance told ABCNews.com today that officers had been searching a portion of Interstate 87 between Harnett and Lee counties.

"Information that we received leads us here as far as where the body was discarded," she said.

sad,sad story.I really hate when these kinds of stories end in tragedy. But there are people who seek out children for their sexual sicknesses. Most everyone has saw to catch a predator and special reports on how American businessmen go to other countries just so they can be with children sexually. I feel that anyone who wants to dominate a child in this fashion should be given the strictest punishment that can be given, and yes in some cases even death. The only way we can stop this kind of thing is to put our foot down and demand that they earnestly seek them out and expose them. The best way is to warn your children that those type of people are out there just waiting for them. And if someone even gives them the feeling of being uncomfortable, or try and touch them in places that are covered by their clothing, or offer them money in exchange for a favor,they should not hesitate they should tell you or any adult who will listen. And also let them know that the person does not have to be a stranger it could be someone the family knows and loves. Because most of the time its usually close to home.Case in point,mother prostituting her child out for sex, thats about as close as you can get.Maybe grannies,aunts,uncles,big brothers,big sisters should start having these conversations with other members in their family.
