Obama to Accept Nobel Peace Prize as War President, Address Afghanistan Troop Surge
Source: ABC News

There is a bit of irony that just 10 days after announcing the deployment of 30,000 more American troops to Afghanistan, President Obama will accept the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize tomorrow in Oslo, Norway.

The award, which the Nobel committee said was for Obama's "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," comes as he presides over wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and faces an American public that is increasingly skeptical about the U.S.-led efforts there.

Obama will walk a delicate line in his acceptance speech, and the White House said he will acknowledge that he accepts the peace prize as a war president. Aides said he will address Afghanistan and the decision to add troops there and present it in the overall context of the award he is accepting.

"We'll address directly the notion, I think, that many have wondered, which is the juxtaposition of the timing for the Nobel Peace Prize and his commitment to add more troops into Afghanistan," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said. "That's obviously something that he will address."

2. I would love to see him decline it.
I know that it won't happen, but I would really respect that.

Reminds me of my friend when we discussing God one night. After we decided there is no God my friend said, "In that case I'll try the chicken." Some people find something good anywhere. ;)

5. I still find this a bit peculiar. If Iraq and Afghanistan were resolved I could see it,
but this to me seems premature.

16.  Bush pulled the troops from Afghanistan for his elective invasion of Iraq. Obama deals with mess
Bush and Cheney started this crap, but let their greed for oil overpower any common sense they may have had. Now 8 years later we are still there and in no better shape. Now Obama is faced with fixing this mess. Obama DID NOT WANT to send anybody anywhere. Unlike the previous criminal administration, Obama actually has some empathy. The troops are exhausted, the mission now redefined, and an end strategy put in place. It's time for Afghanistan to shit or get off the pot. Whether we start leaving in 2011, 2021, or 2051, the Talaban can still come in there and take over if not stopped by the Afghanistan government and forces. The people complain because Obama wants to go in to accomplish something and people complain because he wants to give them a deadline. I totally agree with his plan. Our soldiers need to know their buddies didn't die for nothing and they haven't gone through hell for nothing. Not to mention all of the innocent people killed who they call "collateral damage". You break it you bought it. Now it's time to pay up. I can't wait until Bin Laden is captured. I want to hear the criticism then.

As Obama is working toward world peace and nuclear disarmament, he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. He takes full responsibility for his decisions and actions. Let the future tell the whole story. God bless and give Obama wisdom and God bless and protect our soldiers.

By the way....polls are only taken by people with land lines. Many, many people now have cell phones only. Therefore, the poll results are way off.
