U.S. pledges $85M for renewable energy in developing nations
Source: Green Technology Daily

U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu on Monday announced the creation of a program to transfer clean-energy technologies to developing countries at the international climate negotiations in Copenhagen.

Called the Renewables and Efficiency Deployment Initiative (Climate REDI), the goal is to promote the use of efficient and renewable energy products to cut greenhouse gas emissions and improve the quality of life in poor countries, according to the DOE.

The initiative would cost about $350 million over five years. The three programs would cost $100 million alone, and the United States plan to contribute $35 million. The rest would come from countries such as Australia and Italy.

For the World Bank's program, the initiative could give $250 million overtime, with $50 million coming form the Unite States, Chu said. The rest would come from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland.

4. I'd rather that money spent here
rebuilding aging power plants and replacing our power grid to make it more efficient.

If we're going to send foreign aid there needs to be some oversight.

7. I imagine what isn't scooped up by bureaucrats
on the donor side will be diverted to the swiss bank accounts of those on the receiving side.

Global alt energy is a huge market though, I think it is jumping from 130b to 200b in 2010.
