Rwanda jails journalist Valerie Bemeriki for genocide
Source: BBC News

A Rwandan journalist who encouraged Hutus to slaughter Tutsis during the 1994 genocide has been jailed for life.

During her trial Valerie Bemeriki admitted to inciting violence.

In one broadcast attributed to her she told her listeners: "Do not kill those cockroaches with a bullet - cut them to pieces with a machete."

She was one of the most prominent voices of Radio Mille Collines - a station which became notorious for its encouragement of the slaughter.

4. Not even unique to Bemeriki, either
That was the standard slur, and the standard killing method, during the genocide.

5. Takes a "special" kind of person to kill this way...
or to encourage other's to do so. True evil is rarely so blatant.

7. When will Americas dangerous Demagogues beheld accountable?
Edited on Mon Dec-14-09 07:03 PM by Mr. Sparkle
From Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck to Rush Limbaugh, they all have had links to psychopaths who have killed in the last few years. The Democrats have controlled 2 branches of government for the last year and to the best of my knowledge, this has not been brought up as a subject for debate.

11. As much as I hate Glenn Beck
comparing his hate speech to that which directly incited the mass murder of up to 1 million Tutsi civilians is a bit ridiculous.

Do I think Glenn Beck's speech is dangerous? Yes.

Has he incited a genocide? Come on now, no.

Every time we use the word genocide, or genocide-related terminology in comparison with something that clearly is not, the word loses power. And frankly, we sound no more intelligent than the tea-baggers comparing Obama and Hitler.

Hate speech and inciting a genocide are completely and obviously separate beasts. Attempting to compare the two is foolish.
