Pelosi takes on Palin over 'death panel' claim
By Michael O'Brien - 12/22/09 01:18 PM ET

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) called out former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) for having made the "lie of the year" for claiming the healthcare bill would set up "death panels."

Pelosi's office circulated a special edition of its "mythbuster" email to reporters on Tuesday touting PolitiFact's determination that Palin's claim about death panels was their "lie of the year."

Palin had claimed that seniors and the disabled would "have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,'" under the healthcare legislation favored by President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats.

PolitiFact, which is owned and operated by the St. Petersburg Times and the Poynter Institute, a non-profit journalism think tank, won the Pulitzer Prize in 2009 for national reporting.

Edited for grammar error. I know the Caribou Quitter isn't interested in grammar, spelling, logic, etc., but some of us do care how we appear to the world.

When her "faithful" are as dumb as rocks, what would it matter if she posted gibberish?

If it was UnRecced by a Freeper, they thank you for the attention you give them because that is what they wanted.

9. Pfft. If that's what they consider to be a political victory, they live very sad small lives. And if
you felt the thread was so unimportant, then why reply and bump it back up? You just gave them even more time to get recognized, so if that's what you fear most about this thread then let it sink.

11. And will Pelosi do anything about the slippery slope that the right-wing noise machine has built?
I'm searching for a reason why there's no public option. Oh wait, because so many Americans love Sarah Palin they believe just about any dumb thing she says, even her foolish "death panel" myth.

13. What BS
Totally neglecting the fact that those insurance companies the Republican party supports fits their own description of death panels. The Bourgeoisie decides whether they want to keep your life or not for the sake of their profit. Gee, i guess when you have so much money from them shoved up your ass you'll want to praise them all the time too.

15. Pelosi grandstanding before she throws us all to the wolves
Of course, the real death panels are the insurance companies and Pelousy will be voting to give them all our hard earned cash.

Actually, I kind of like wolves. They are much cooler than loser politicians, either the Palin type or the Pelosi type.

29. Between the two, I don’t know who is more worthless
I’m glad to see that there are others who see no value in listening to Pelosi lecturing on someone else’s lie; and for those who think she is on the side of reason, you might want to take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr_EY9cc5Jw&feature=PlayList&p=B11DDC5CABCB4AAD&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=37#t=5m45s">how she is unwilling and unable to deal with other pathological liar’s.

Too call her clueless would be a compliment; personally I believed she is a pathologically warped right wing conservative with a "D" in front of her name; much like the Joe Lieberman who almost became VP...

37. No offense but, I think the GOP leaders like her just fine...
Their all just putting on a show for those who still want to play the blame game, as well as, believe in and make up excuses for - why our dumb and dumber two party pretend democracy can't do what's right for the mostly clueless unemployed / working class majority; who - as it just so happens - are accustom to letting the predator class, their corporations and fake news mass media, hand pick political candidates prior to any election. And yes they seek out the most pathologically inept and venal snake oil salesmen and saleswomen money can buy; this of course marginalizes the few exceptions too the rule.

34. I can't believe that people are falling for Pelosi's supposed
heroics by taking on a loser such as Palin.

This is a distraction from the real issues and it furthermore gives Palin air time, visibility and elevates her to being worthy of comment. Pelosi shouldn't be wasting her breath and giving credence to Palin's idiocy.

in terms of the the overall implications of both health care and politics. Let's not get distracted by the 'red meat' thrown our way.

27. possibilities
Granted the Health Care Reform measure as it now exists is far from what any thinking person would desire, but I'll contend that just by its existence it does the same thing as the atomic bomb on Hiroshima that in it converts the hypothetical possibility into a concrete and makes what for some had been the unthinkable into a reality and promotes further consideration of the implicit possibilities.

What a soft congress! Can someone please remove Pelosi, Lieberman and Reid, so we can get people like Grayson, Kucinich, Frankin, or any other Congress-person that isn't a big business puppet? So we can get some real damn change in this country?!?!?!

33. Reality
Always amusing to read articles and posts on the Underground.

Reality ... this bill centralizes planning of all medical insurance products, cuts away Medicare options, taxes plans that cover "too much", taxes citizens that seek their own care OTC, taxes those using medical devices, and will surely raise taxes for the future to cover the costs. We all know the CBO estimate is built on sand.

So, centrally-planned care will slowly eliminate non-governmental providers, and since the bill does not address the real drivers of cost, will face large gaps between funding and need. The bill addresses this by giving huge power to Sec. Health and Human Services to adjust things, including care options, end of life decisions in non-terminal situations and withholding of heroic measures for the elderly.

The government already denies claims at a rate exceeding those of all other carriers, and those in charge of the pertinent departments of the executive have already gone on record as being in favor of restricting care for the aged and others whose "quality of life" is not "normal".

So get over it. Your bill doesn't have "death panels" per se, but its close enough for government work. Just like it doesn't have "single payer", but every aspect of health care delivery will now be controlled by HHS central planning. Smells like single payer to me. And that whole central planning thing sounds like some other political system than America too.

idiot sheep, who desperately need people like Palin, Limbaugh, O'Reilly & the rest to reinforce daily their reasons justifying their hate, racism as well as their place in life, as someone else' fault...if it wasn't for the black people, or the liberals or the government they would all be very rich right now...People like Palin constantly tell them lies have zero respect for them, yet, the sheep are more than happy to repeat every lie as truth, like a mantra...no one could tell them differently, they've made it fact by saying it over & over....No one can point fingers, lie and place the blame better than the republicans....They are all about justifying hate, lies & greed for their own selfish hate-filled existence.
