(BBC investigation) 'Flaws' in key Lockerbie evidence
Source: BBC

An investigation by BBC's Newsnight has cast doubts on the key piece of evidence which convicted the Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi.

Tests aimed at reproducing the blast appear to undermine the case's central forensic link, based on a tiny fragment identified as part of a bomb timer.

The tests suggest the fragment, which linked the attack to Megrahi, would not have survived the mid-air explosion.

...

Newsnight has been reviewing that evidence, and has exposed serious doubts about the forensics used to identify the fragment as being part of a trigger circuit board.

The fragment was found three weeks after the attack. For months it remained unnoticed and unremarked, but eventually it was to shape the entire investigation.

...

And the UN's European consultant on explosives, John Wyatt, has told Newsnight that there are further doubts over the whether the fragment could have come from the trigger of the Lockerbie bomb.

2. If it wasn't involved, who put it there?
Will someone be punished for obstruction of justice? If al-Megrahi was wrongfully convicted, will there be any indemnification?
To Libya, will there be compensation for the embargo?

And of course you have to be cautious with what they will come up now.
This was crucial in getting Libya in line, now they are going after Iran.
At least that`s what the MSM sources came up with when the doubts amounted some month ago.
Talk about recycling. Use one attack to punish two opponents.

3. I always suspected Edwin Wilson might be a peripheral piece of this puzzle:

Former CIA spy branded a traitor wants to clear his name
Like a story in a spy novel, Edwin Wilson is out to prove he was set up
By TRACY JOHNSON
P-I REPORTER

... The notorious ex-spy once traveled the world, gathering intelligence while playing the role of global businessman. He later was tied to shipping a planeload of explosives to Libya, sending him to prison for decades ...

But three years ago, a federal judge in Texas threw out a major conviction -- that Wilson conspired to ship 20 tons of a powerful plastic explosive known as C-4 to Libya in 1977 -- and blasted the government for covering up the truth.

Wilson had finally gotten documents to help support the claim he had made all along: That despite his 1971 retirement, the CIA was still secretly using him to gather intelligence and knew about many of his activities in Libya.

The government had denied it for years. His attorney, Steve Berman, said the CIA didn't want to be publicly connected to anything it had authorized Wilson to do, so it simply "hung him out to dry" ...
