Disgraced wife of NIreland leader to step down
Source: Associated Press

LONDON – The wife of Northern Ireland's leader will step down as a lawmaker within days, British media reported Saturday, as pressure mounted on Peter Robinson's shaky coalition government over her admissions of an affair with a far-younger man.

The BBC and Britain's Press Association cited unidentified sources within the Robinson's Democratic Unionist Party as saying that his wife Iris, 60, would relinquish her dual position as parliamentarian in London and representative to Northern Ireland's regional assembly in Belfast within days.

The reported move follows the revelation that she had an adulterous relationship with a man nearly 40 years her junior — and allegations that she solicited tens of thousands of pounds (dollars) from businessmen to help the teenager launch a cafe.

Iris Robinson was 58 at the time, and the man, Kirk McCambley, was 19.

3. dayum! and Berlusconi boffs an 18-year-old when he's 70, and stays in office
Go figure.

Still, anything that can challenge this godawful ageism against women is a form of progress, even though it was marred in this case by adultery and questionable influence peddling.

5. What's the difference between her and these ol' fa*ts that glom onto
a young chick to make themselves look more viral? Then years earlier, they'd be called pedophiles.

Just sayin'.

a. She is no "old fart" (check her out below; I rather like the cleavage showing with that less than perfectly centered Catholic cross above) }(
b. Can't blame her really, probably bored as all hell being married to this guy.
c. It was a teenager yes, but of legal age. You can drink when you are 18 in Ireland.
d. So, why the hell not?

15. Don't you just love the Hypocrisy
Robinson describes herself as a born again Christian,<1> and has publicly stated that "the government has the responsibility to uphold God's laws";<2> her expressed views on homosexuality caused controversy in 2008.

In December 2009, she announced that she would leave politics and withdraw from public life following prolonged periods of mental illness.<3> Robinson's extra-marital affair with a teenager in 2008,<4> revealed in January 2010, became connected with allegations of financial impropriety involving Robinson and her husband. It was announced on 9 January 2010 that she would stand down from elected office during the next week.<5> Later, it emerged that the DUP had terminated her membership.<6>

29. Because nobody flails about when a 58 year old man gets a 19 year old.
What's good for the goose........

I'm usually not into adultery or giant bribes, unless there is something in for me, of course.

32. Oh, no
Don't tell me Ireland is becoming a nation of sanctimonious moralizers like the United States.

I can understand the outrage over the diversion of funds, but is it the business of the state for their leaders to remain morally pure?

I can tell you right now, this wouldn't happen in Canada. There may have been a few snickers behind doors, but if a government representative got caught in an affair, it wouldn't be reported. And if it were, we'd all be yawning.

Personal, private affairs have little bearing on PUBLIC performance.
