US anti-terrorist strategy 'not sufficient'
http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=FT.com/StoryFT/FullStory&c=StoryFT&cid=1078381783308

Romano Prodi, European Commission president, on Monday claimed the Madrid atrocities showed the US strategy of using force to defeat terrorism was insufficient, and that the EU needed its own response.

Mr Prodi said Europe needed also to focus on "soft security" and work to develop co- operation with neighbouring countries.

"These dark days have shown us how the American approach itself has not been sufficient to deal with the situation completely," he said.

"It is clear that force alone cannot win the fight against terrorism. Europe's response must be more wide-ranging than the American reaction."

just highlighting more of the *Co failures

1. The US media will avoid this like the plague
The talking points are that this means terrorism 'won' in Spain and therefore to avoid them 'winning' here, we need to elect Bush.

2. will Bush be able to flip flop fast enough to take the Euro
position on this and thus win election? He's done it before. Remember the dept of Homeland Security was a Dem invention and Bush at first deplored it.

Nah, that would make him an appeaser wouldn't it? It's over the cliff for Shrub and his lemmings.

5. Boy, weren't some of us saying this three years ago?
It's bad enough to use macho posturing to get elected, but to actually continue it while in office is juvenile.
