New York’s Paterson to Run for 2nd Term as Governor
Source: Bloomberg

Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) -- New York Governor David Paterson kicked off his gubernatorial campaign today with a promise to keep putting “the people first” as executive of the third- most-populous state.

“After all you’ve heard, there’s one rumor that I will confirm,” Paterson told a crowd at Hofstra University, in his boyhood hometown of Hempstead, New York. “I’m running for governor this year.”

The Democratic governor, who took office in 2008 when Eliot Spitzer resigned, enters the race with the state facing an $8.2 billion deficit. Revenue has decreased and the state’s jobless rate is at its highest since 1983 amid the worst economic slump since the Great Depression.

State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, 52, intends to challenge Paterson, 55, and declare his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in March, supporters have said. The party primary is in September. Seventy-one percent of New York state voters approve of the job Cuomo is doing, compared to 37 percent for Paterson, according to Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

1. The phrase, "As much chance as
a snowball in Hell" comes prominently to mind. I'm no fan of Cuomo the Younger, but Paterson is basically universally disliked (I'm being kind) across the State, and more importantly, considered inept.

3. Sadly that is true- and i like paterson
i think he is one of the few politicians who speaks the truth and doesnt sugar coat issues. He is dealing with alot in NYS at the moment, much of it not his fault and i feel that he is doing a good job. Sometimes what has to be done/said isnt easy.

that being said i think we are going to see governor cuomo who i am not a big fan of. I get the feeling that he is just another sleeze bag politician. Plus i don't see how he can really do much better.

2. he's crazy to run
he simply needs to look to NJ to see what happens when an unpopular incumbent runs for re-election.

8. my parents can't stand him
I'm this close to trying to convince them to change their voter registration so they can vote against him in the primary (they're independents)

for people like Patterson...I like him, but the establishment has spoken. :evilfrown:

9. Paterson Made His Bed
When his office encouraged the trashing of Caroline Kennedy, while Al D'Amato channeled $500k in campaign donations for backing Gillibrand. Stupid, stupid, stupid dumbass move.
