NYC terrorism suspect cites subway attack plan
By Tom Hays And Adam Goldman, Associated Press Writers – 22 mins ago

NEW YORK – A former Denver airport shuttle driver admitted Monday to a plot to bomb the New York City subways, saying he was recruited by al-Qaida in Pakistan for a "martyrdom plan" against the United States.

"I would sacrifice myself to bring attention to what the U.S. military was doing to civilians in Afghanistan," Najibullah Zazi, 25, told a federal judge in a Brooklyn courtroom.

The Afghan native pleaded guilty to conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction, conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country and providing material support for a terrorist organization. He faces a life prison sentence without parole at a sentencing in June.

Zazi said he went to Pakistan in 2008 to join the Taliban and fight against the U.S. military but was recruited by the terrorist network and went into a training camp.

2. It is reasons such as this that body scanners should be used more widely
Public transportation, malls, and sports stadiums should be next in line behind airports.

5. NYC terrorism suspect set to plead guilty
Source: MSNBC

NEW YORK - A former Denver airport shuttle driver is preparing to plead guilty to terrorism charges in a plot hatched around the anniversary of the Sept. 11 hijackings to attack New York City with homemade bombs, law enforcement officials told The Associated Press on Monday.

Najibullah Zazi, 24, has begun talking to authorities and plans a guilty plea that could come as early as Monday, law enforcement officials told the AP, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation continues.

Zazi's attorney, William Stampur, didn't immediately return a telephone message Monday. As important as a plea would be, Zazi may be far more valuable to investigators as a source for information about co-conspirators in the United States and Pakistan.

Three people with inside knowledge of the investigation confirmed that the jailed Zazi volunteered information during a recent sit-down with his attorney and federal prosecutors in Brooklyn. The sit-down, known as a proffer session, typically signals that a defendant has begun cooperating in a bid for a plea deal.

6. More fallout from Baradar?
It was the "co-conspirators in Pakistan" part that grabbed my eye. Zazi may simply see the writing on the wall.

Source: CNN

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Terrorism suspect Najibullah Zazi pleaded guilty Monday to conspiring to detonate explosives in the United States.

In an appearance before a federal judge, Zazi, a native of Afghanistan who lived in Colorado, admitted his role in the conspiracy, saying, "In spring 2008, I conspired with others to join the Taliban, to fight along with the Taliban against the United States."

"We were recruited to al Qaeda instead," he said.

He pleaded guilty to three counts: conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction, conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country and providing material support to a terrorist organization.
