Hastert Says Spain's Election Results 'Appease' Terrorists
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A2852-2004Mar17.html

By Charles Babington
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, March 18, 2004; Page A06

Congressional Republicans rallied to President Bush's defense yesterday, chiding Spanish voters for ousting a government that had backed his Iraq policy and dismissing anti-administration sentiment among many Europeans and Muslims as behind-the-times thinking.

The comments, which included pokes at Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry, echoed remarks by Bush and Vice President Cheney as their reelection campaign sharpens its defense of the administration's foreign policies. The remarks came one day after a nine-nation poll found substantial opposition to U.S. policy among Europeans and Muslims.

ummm..shouldn't the headline read HOUSE LEMMINGS RALLIES AROUND BUSH* ?

1. Spain is an independent, sovereign nation
It is not a satillite state of the US. The US has no say, and no standing to comment on, elections in Spain. Democracy prevailed in Spain and the people who thumbed their nose at the will of the Spanish people by supporting the war in Iraq paid the price for it. Why should they have been reelected? They ignore the will of 90% of the Spanish people. Not a transient, delusional shift of opinion, but a persistent, long-term, well thought out opposition. To have rewarded the PP for that would have been an affront to democracy.

10. .....The GOP wraps up in the flag and beat their chest
with patriotic songs in the name of Democracy and then dictate orders in the vain of greed.

We now have witnessed insanity in full light.

9. Orwell
this is just one more piece of evidence that proves that this administration and the Republican Party in general is authoritarian, in the same mold as dictatorships everywhere.
