Prosecutors reveal terrorism charges against 'Jihad Jane' (U.S. citizen)
Source: Washington Post

Federal prosecutors unsealed criminal terrorism charges Tuesday against a Pennsylvania woman who allegedly used the Internet to recruit men and women across the globe to "wage violent jihad."

Colleen R. LaRose, a U.S. citizen who used the nicknames "Fatima LaRose" and "Jihad Jane," has been in custody for months while the FBI and Justice Department pursued leads in the investigation, according to federal sources.

She is charged with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, conspiracy to kill in a foreign country, making false statements and attempted identity theft in connection with the stealing of a U.S. passport. LaRose and five unidentified co-conspirators allegedly discussed how her appearance would help her blend into Western society and avoid detection by authorities.

The indictment against LaRose, who was born in 1963 and lives in the Philadelphia suburbs, "underscores the evolving nature of the threat we face," said David Kris, assistant attorney general for the national security division.

2. THIS Constitutes Terrorism?
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 06:38 PM by Demeter
Now, if it were Michelle Bachman, or Sarah Palin, I could understand. They constitute clear and present dangers to the Constitution and the population.

This sounds more like grasping at straws, a witch hunt, if you will. McCarthyism, unless they have something like evidence of real crime. Stupidity and insanity are not crimes...

9. our government's bi-monthly terrorist hoax...
how does this story go again...?

patsy with mental problems, trumped up charges, charges quietly withdrawn 9 months later because they turn out to be fabricated or too flimsy to hold up in court.

terra, people! terra!

10. yeah of course it's all made up...
She really didn't go to Sweden and stalk a guy she specifically said she intended to kill because ::gasp:: he made fun of Muhammad.

Any time any jihadist is arrested someone on DU is bound to call it a setup.

16. related: AP Source: Colo. Woman Held in Terror Probe
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=10091204

A Colorado woman has been detained in Ireland in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate a Swedish cartoonist whose sketch offended many Muslims, a U.S. official said Saturday.

Jamie Paulin-Ramirez, 31, was among seven people arrested in Ireland this week as authorities investigate an alleged plot to kill cartoonist Lars Vilks over a 2007 sketch depicting the head of the Prophet Muhammad on a dog's body. The drawing provoked terror front Al-Qaida in Iraq to offer a $100,000 bounty for his slaying.

The U.S. official was not authorized to discuss the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.

After the arrests, U.S. authorities unsealed terror charges against Colleen LaRose, 46, of Pennsylvania. She allegedly went by the name "Jihad Jane" to recruit others online to kill the cartoonist.
