4.5 Earthquake in Pico Rivera CA
Source: Local News Stations

A 4.5 quake was in Pico Rivera this morning around 4 am.

No link yet.

We live in Los Angeles and it was a jolt but so far things appear calm according to the news stations.

5. Yup. Wondering when the Canary Islands are next going to blow.

(Sitting on a many-million-year-old oceanic volcanic edifice (not extinct), here, about 50 metres from the Atlantic coast and about 7 metres above mean spring high tide sea level...). :silly:

Nice fertile land, though. And beautiful people.

El Teide:

(edit: I made that photograph, taking off from La Laguna's airport on the north of the island of Tenerife, emerging through the clouds to see so much terrible beauty revealed. That is a very large volcano. I claim no copyright.)

12. I used to live in California (lived there for 42 years).
Earthquakes are common-place there. BTW, I left because of the economy, not the earthquakes.

3. Downgraded to 4.4
felt as a sharp jolt in Glendale, reminiscent of the last earthquake that happened on that fault in 1987.

11. I am about five miles from Whittier..

(Pico Rivera being just southwest of Whittier, for out of towners)

And, for us, this early morning minor roller felt nothing like the '87 quake!

7. Wonder how Pat Robertson will explain this?
Surely God hates southern CA more than Haiti.

8. I slept through it, but it's getting a LOT of coverage on the news
which leads me to believe it felt pretty strong. I live in downtown LA, so the epicenter was pretty close to me.....I worry that all these big earthquakes mean something big is coming here, too, and I've never had to deal with a big earthquake. I need to increase my earthquake preparedness, I guess. :(

9. I live in the middle of the San Fernando Valley
and while I definitely felt it, I am not sure I would have had I not been awake already.

10. 4.5 or so earthquakes are pretty normal...
for the Pico-Rivera area. Faultline map for that part of S. CA is almost black.

14. I wonder if my cat felt it....
naw... not all the way in Texas!

For some weird reason, she meowed really loudly in one of my ears around that time.

16. Scared the shit out of me
I was asleep & it woke me. It was the strongest one we've had in awhile. I really hate them because you never know if it's just a little shake or if you should get under the table.
