Bush Campaign Gear Made In Burma (Bush Banned Burmese Imports)
http://www.newsday.com/business/ny-bzsell0319,0,4764348.story?coll=ny-business-headlines

---

The official merchandise Web site for President George W. Bush's re-election campaign has sold clothing made in Burma, whose goods were banned by Bush from the U.S. last year to punish its military dictatorship.

The merchandise sold on www.georgewbushstore.com includes a $49.95 fleece pullover, embroidered with the Bush-Cheney '04 logo and bearing a label stating it was made in Burma, now Myanmar. The jacket was sent to Newsday as part of an order that included a shirt made in Mexico and a hat not bearing a country-of-origin label.

33. Earlier this week Powell assured India, that the Bush
administration would not try to halt the outsourcing of high tech jobs to India.

What an outrage..the job of this administration is supposed to be to protect the interest of AMERICANS. They only work to portect the pockets of themselves and their wealthy friends.

COL, why can't middle America figure this out?

I sent a letter to our rag paper, the Indianapolis Star, because their was not ONE word about Powell's comments. Sadly, there still isn't.

Greedy,despicable, liars.

Hope all the soccer moms get wind of this.

Textile workers getting as little as seven cents an hour,

and this little tidbit from the story:
<snip> Human rights watcher Charles Kernaghan, director of the National Labor Committee, said the slip-up showed a lack of conviction on the administration's part. "Given the debate about outsourcing, it's amazing that the campaign would be selling stuff made in the most brutal country on earth, known for things like child labor and sexual slavery," he said. "It shows a crude indifference to this issue."

"How much do they cost?"

Seems the Bush/Cheney campaign on-line store (www.georgewbushstore.com) is selling products made by workers in other nations. One of the nations providing goods to the fund raising enterprise is Myanmar, formerly Burma. George W. Bush banned goods from that nation last year to punish its military dictator.

27. Yes it is
All Democratic campaign materials are made in the United States by union labor. That's pretty much a standard. In fact, Wes Clark got in trouble at one point when it turned out that some small piece of campaign material was produced by domestic, non-union labor. It was an oversight and was corrected immediatly.

29. Made in the USA - see Newsday article
"The Kerry merchandise was made in the United States, according to Mark Weiner, the president of Financial Innovations. The company, whose employees belong to the Communications Workers of America Union, sources most of its merchandise from union factories.

"It's becoming more difficult to find American-made union product, especially in textiles, but you just have to look. We pay more money for them, so we make a smaller profit margin," said Paul McConnell, Financial Innovations' vice president."

He said he would slap sanctions on Burma to punish the ruling junta, to "punish them." And of course, they have no oil so he won't try to free the people there from their awful military regime.

And now the campaign is using their workers, probably in sweatshops, to make his items.

BASEBALL AND HAITI ARE CONNECTED
The game has been tarnished for a long time, tarnished by the origins of the equipment used to play the game. There is a connection between U.S. exports of militarism and oppression to Haiti and U.S. imports of clothing, toys and baseballs from Haiti.
(As good as any other theory!)

58. related article: Made-In-Burma Jacket Stirs Flap
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=573&e=20&u=/nm/campaign_bush_myanmar_dc

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A "Bush-Cheney '04" campaign jacket sold on the Internet has stirred controversy because it was made in Myanmar, whose imports have been banned by the United States.

<snip>

The Bush administration has been trying to fend off widespread criticism of jobs being moved overseas. Democrats especially have pounced on the loss of millions of manufacturing jobs -- including many in the hard- hit textile industry -- as a presidential election campaign issue.

<snip>

Jackson said a supplier shipped the wrong products.

He said the Bush campaign had asked that all of its products originate from American factories, and his company had listed those instructions when placing orders. Jackson said he had sent an apology letter to the campaign over the flap.

...more...

So how does that sword feel Mr. Jackson?
