Gardner pleads guilty to murders of Chelsea, Amber

John Albert Gardner III pleaded guilty Friday to murder charges in the slayings of Chelsea King and Amber Dubois, ending weeks of speculation as to whether he would be charged in the deaths of both teenage girls.

As a result, Gardner, a 31-year-old convicted sex offender, will avoid facing the death penalty, and instead be sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.

2. Meanwhile he gets to live in prison on our dime for the rest of his life.
At least he's off the street. Hope he doesn't get pardoned or out early as many lifers do now including Clemmons.

3. The Gardner case should teach us the failure of sex offender restrictions
Although prosecutors wanted him in prison until 2030, Gardner got paroled in 2005 for a plea deal that never should have been honored in the first place. He violated parole a lot but never went back to the big house. And now just because the state would rather have him register as a sex offender and tell him not to live near schools but not actively monitor him, two innocent girls have lost their lives.

I applaud Chelsea King's parents for taking the initiative of proposing a law to revise the state sex offender laws by giving sex offenders lifetime parole and GPS monitoring rather than just mandatory registration post-release and giving some sex offenders an automatic mandatory life sentence.

5. I heard this from a friend who heard it on the radio - San Diego is sad
I'm glad they captured this one.

I wonder what other horrible crimes he committed, and how many others like him there are out there.

7. That monster is the one who told them where Amber's body was...
I was of the opinion that it was his girlfriend that was working with the cops after his arrest.

snip>

She said Gardner waived all rights of appeal. She said that on March 5 Gardner lead authorities to Amber’s body after prosecutors promised not to use that information against him in court.

After the discovery of Amber’s body, investigators worked to connect Gardner to Amber’s murder, she said. But there was no DNA or evidence found in search warrants connecting him to it.

Dumanis said the deal was kept secret to protect the integrity of the case and that no agreements were made in the King case. She said the death penalty was never taken off the table in the King case.

She said no further comments will be made until the judge lifts a gag order. She said the families will speak at a June 1 sentencing hearing in court.
