BNP hopes of a breakthrough dashed as party defeated in target seats
Source: UK Times

Nick Griffin failed dramatically in his bid to gain a Westminster seat this morning when he suffered a resounding defeat in the British National Party’s East London stronghold.

In a humiliating defeat, Mr Griffin was relegated to third place in Barking, trailing behind the Conservative candidate Simon Marcus. The BNP’s share of the vote dropped by 2 per cent after an extensive campaign to mobilise voters against the threat of the far right. The BNP had considered Barking a stronghold after exploiting local concerns about immigration and housing to win 12 seats in the local council in 2006.

Mr Griffin blamed high voter turnout for his defeat and said that it was the “last chance for Barking”.

His voice drowned out by booing, he said: “This was the last of London. Within the next five years the indigenous people of London will be a minority in our own capital city. This is a wake-up call, not just for London. This is a wake-up call for the whole of Britain.”

Lots to still be determined in this election, but at least the BNP did not get an MP elected. That's a streak I hope lasts for a long time.

From the BNP's website:

http://www.bnp.org.uk/

"Native British are now treated like second-class citizens in our own country, whilst asylum-seekers and immigrants are pushed to the front of the queue for housing, jobs and benefits. Millions of our people are unemployed yet the politicians continue to allow foreign workers to flood into Britain, taking our jobs or claiming benefits, costing us billions of pounds.

Whilst the politicians lavish billions on undeserving foreigners and mega-rich bankers, thousands of our pensioners freeze to death every winter, or are forced to eke out a miserable existence on tiny pensions.

Despite the huge sacrifice of millions of our war heroes to keep our country free and independent, the politicians have sold us out to the European Union, taking away our right to rule ourselves and decide our own laws.

Towns and cities all over our beautiful country now resemble parts of Africa or Asia. British people have become a minority in many areas already, and within a few decades, we will become a minority across the country as a whole.

Where we stand:

We will put British people first in their own country,
We demand British jobs go to British workers,
We say NO to an EU superstate, and YES to keeping Britain free,
We will stop paying foreign aid and give that money to pensioners,
and we will bring British troops home from Afghanistan."

1. There's also a brewing implosion internally with the party
Their webmaster, Simon Bennett, broke ranks on Tuesday after it seems that he was taking the legal heat over the use of the Marmite logo in their campaign video. The first link has a basic overview, but Bennett's statement in the second link (or at least the latter half of it) is worth reading:

7. Looks like the BNP lost all its council seats in two of the districts where they were strongest
before. They had hoped to even win a majority of the council in Barking where they already had several councilors and where Nick Griffin was running as an MP candidate. They all lost. :)

8. I was sad to see
they received as many votes as they did. But I did enjoy the crowds in the various borough halls booing after they announced the BNP's totals.
