For the first time in state history, the Democrats failed to file a candidate for US Senate. In fact, Senator Mike Crapo (R) appeared to win re-election without opposition when no one -- not even a third party candidate -- filed to oppose him. Former State Senator John Peavey (D) was going to oppose Crapo, but changed his mind at the last minute. When that happened, a Democratic Party aide rushed to the Capitol and tried to file US Senate paperwork for a replacement candidate -- but she literally arrived less than a minute too late for the 5:00 pm deadline.

3. check out post number one |

Aparently the Dem planning on running changed his mind at the very last minute (literally), and when the state party found out, a staffer literally ran to the clerk's office and arrived less than a minute late to file paperwork placing herself as a candidate for Senate.
Although, it doesn't matter, we don't have a chance there with or without someone running, so it might be better in the long run not to waste money on a Senate campaign we're sure to lose....

7. Crapo would win anyway. Plus, I like to mispronouce his name to freepers |
|
and shittoheads. It pisses them off (even more than their natural state).

14. Sixth - or even seventh |

The fifth performing Marx brother was Gummo - who stopped performing before they became famous, but did manage them. There was also an older brother who died in infancy. http://www.marx-brothers.org/living/gummo.htm

Good record in the Senate,,,, One of the FEW Senators(REP or DEM) who has consistently answered any of my ?'s with a phone call. He has listened to my view's, and explains his whether we agree or not. Party affiliation aside, he is a good man.

18. I gotta love a senator who has this page on his site... |

"How to say Crapo"
He says it's "Cray-poe."
I looked at his bills sponsored/cosponsored record...no one will ever accuse Mike Crapo of being a Democrat, but it's no Tom DeLay record. He cosponsored the Unborn Victims of Violence Act and the Partial-Birth Abortion Act, which is to be expected; he is a Republican from Idaho, after all.
He's trying to get $250 million for environmental projects in the Coeur d'Alene River Basin. The abandoned Bunker Hill lead smelter is there; it's already a Superfund site. Crapo knows that the most anti-environmental pResident in history sits in the White House, so it looks like he's trying to go above and beyond. My mom grew up in the shadow of the Bunker Hill smelter; her family went through ten dogs a year because if one got out and drank from a puddle it died. She also told us that the little stream everyone called Lead Creek (because there was so much lead in the water you couldn't see the bottom) turned out to really be the Coeur d'Alene River--one of the major rivers in North Idaho.
He sponsors a bill to ensure access to radio spectrum by ham operators every Congress. It keeps getting tabled, but it's an important bill--when really huge natural disasters hit, often hams are the ones to keep communications open. (If something happened to take down the Fayetteville Police Department's communications trunk, there would be no comms for the gendarmes.) Another favorite Crapo bill is one that seeks to amend the Internal Revenue Code to get animal waste declared an alternative fuel. Apparently the pig farmer on the east side of Plummer wants the government to pay him for heating his barn with burning pig shit. Which is actually a very good tax deduction.
Mike Crapo seems to be a decent Republican. There are still some.
