PoliticoMerrick Alpert, the little-known Democratic Senate candidate in Connecticut who has been shunned by the party establishment, said he's received overtures from nearly two dozen delegates who are ready to abandon Attorney General Richard Blumenthal's candidacy.
Alpert said The New York Times revelation that Blumenthal lied about his service in Vietnam has given his underfunded candidacy new life just days before state Democratic convention. "We are now interacting with a lot more delegates than were willing to a day ago. We're seeing delegates beginning to cross over," Alpert told POLITICO in an interview. "There is now going to be a movement to allow us to speak Friday at the convention. There are several people on the rules committee saying Blumenthal may not be electable, let's let Merrick Alpert speak at the convention."
Connecticut Democrats are set to meet Friday to officially endorse their slate of candidates. A candidate needs to capture 15 percent of the vote to qualify for the August primary ballot, a prospect party leadership has aimed to avoid in the Senate contest, in part by refusing Alpert as much as a speaking slot. "All I've ever asked is allow me to make my case. A vote for Richard Blumenthal is a vote for Linda McMahon. Richard Blumenthal's unelectable. It is simply a matter of when he falls, not if. Why do we want to hand his over to Republicans when we refuse to acknowledge the reality?," he said.
Alpert, a small businessman who served in Bosnia as an Air Force officer, said he was irked by Blumenthal's defiant demeanor at his Tuesday afternoon press conference and argued that the embattled candidate failed to show any sense of remorse. "He would not apologize. He refused to stand up and say he lied or say what he did was wrong. It's just ridiculous. For him to say his lie was a misstatement is crazy," Alpert said."The pathology involved in telling that lie is pretty profound. If somebody's willing to lie about the Vietnam War, he's clearly willing to lie about anything for their political benefit," he continued. "He's not sorry he said it, he's sorry he got caught saying it."

People can learn more about this guy and send him some DU LOVE here:
http://merrickforachange.com/I have my own reasons for thinking Blumenthal sucks which you can read (I will post a link downthread) but he is, imho, now toast). But he is so entrenched in the Leiberman Democratic machine (Nlumenthal is Lieberman's protege and followed Lieberman into the Connecticut Attorney General position when Leiberman went to the Senate) that Merrick Alpert (who did a peace march agaianst the Afghanistan war last year on his own and is a Air Force Veteran and former Al Gore staffer) needs ALL THE HELP HE CAN GET!
How about some DU LOOVE for this opportunity of a lifetime (Blumenthal's blatant idocy and insult to veterans).
A REAL progressive and not another Leiberman DINO can win in Connecticut (Chris Dodd's seat - and Dodd was pretty great at times, though not always - this is a seat progressives can TAKE)
But only if we work for it.
Peace
