MILWAUKEE - Dick Leinenkugel has dropped out of Wisconsin's U.S. Senate race and thrown his support behind Oshkosh businessman Ron Johnson.

Leinenkugel's announcement today at the state Republicans' convention in Milwaukee seemed to catch the hundreds of delegates off guard. Many gasped when the former beer mogul said now isn't his time. Leinenkugel says he is formally endorsing Johnson.

Leinenkugel's brief campaign never really got off the ground. He served 19 months as the state's commerce secretary in the administration of Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle. That left some Republicans wary of Leinenkugel's conservative credentials.

With Leinenkugel out, the remaining GOP candidates are Johnson, Madison-area developer Terrence Wall and Watertown businessman Dave Westlake.

7. Now in DC, but always a Michigander.
Sorry to get it wrong. I despise Michiganian, so I humbly apologize.

Wish I had one of your beers now, though.

10. Yeah, out there in the upper Midwest
you can sure get some better choices for craft brew. Right now, I'm enjoying a Stevens Point Brewery Cascade Pale Ale that my local bottle shop just got a case of.

9. Details, please?
The link didn't have any information beyond what was in the bit quoted. When I tried to follow the link to Leinenkugel's own website, I got a virus warning. Is he tea party? I find it amusing that a brewer would be the tea party candidate, so I sorta hope so.
