Maricopa County Board Of Supervisors Says $50 Million Misused

PHOENIX -- CBS 5 obtained some new information about how much money the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe may have misused.

Arpaio's attorneys said the board has a vendetta against the sheriff, but if the information in the in court documents is true, $50 million could have been misused.

CBS 5 got court papers that showed the Superior Court why the supervisors felt they had to issue a subpoena on Arpaio.

Some of it has been heard before, that they said the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office refused to participate in an audit, and that the board thought MCSO was trying to cover up what it was doing with taxpayer cash.

10. Examine and exhibit the accounts of all officers having the care, management, collection or disbursement of money belonging to the county or appropriated by law or otherwise for the use and benefit of the county.

Determine the budgets of all elected and appointed county officers enumerated under section 11-401 by action of the board of supervisors.

11-401. Enumeration of officers

A. The officers of the county are:

1. Sheriff.
2. Recorder.
3. Treasurer.
4. School superintendent.
5. County attorney.
6. Assessor.
7. Supervisors.
8. Clerk of the board of supervisors.
9. Tax collector.
B. The county treasurer shall be ex officio tax collector.

6. This has been a constant revelation for well over a decade. Nothing has ever been

done, and the taxpayers fund Arpaio's megalomania rather than schools. Even the clever seniors from Sun City who avoid paying their share for education get stuck by their boy Joe.

the green bologna sandwiches, the pink drawers...all he did to "save" Maricopa County money, may well have gone to some nefarious purposes. Don't forget, about half of all the drug seizures go to law enforcement as well...that money is rarely, if ever accounted for.
