'Yaacov Bar-Siman-Tov, a professor of international studies at Hebrew University, said the nation’s leadership had failed to improve its problem with legitimacy because it focuses on tactics, like destroying enemies, rather than on a long-term strategy aimed at an ultimate settlement with the Palestinians.

“What would we like to achieve here?” Mr. Bar-Siman-Tov said. “If you would like to keep the Jewish state we have to be separated from the Palestinians. There is no way to continue with the occupation. It has created damage to our credibility and legitimacy.” '

8. piracy
Piracy, murder and kidnapping!
And the US DoJ dredges up antique piracy laws to imprison enviromentals who pull publicity stunts! Israel is no different than those Somali pirates. They need a naval blockade around this crimal country. I hope Turkey sends a big warship as an escort.

13. My bet is that before this is over ...
both the House and Senate will vote (almost unanimously) that the US continues to support Israel.

17. We're all "Palestinians" now.
"Peasants" may be a more accurate term, but the meaning would seem much the same.

18. 19 years old and killed on the right side of history.
But it can sure take a long time for history to turn.

How long O Lord will You forget me
How long O Lord will You look the other way
How long O Lord must I wrestle with my thoughts
And every day have such sorrow in my heart

20. not only Rachel Corrie, but Ita Ford, Maura Clarke, Jean Donovan, Dorothy Kazel, and Ben Linder
could tell you, Americans being killed overseas only angers a portion of Americans if it's by a friendly state

it actually increases the volume of bloodthirsty chest-thumping, once US "traitors" to death-squad-creator regimes are added to the mix

in the minds of pimps and shills (for Washington, Trujillo, West Jerusalem, San Salvador, 80s Ankara, etc.), they're "useful idiots" assisting "terrorists" who are eviler than Sonderkommandos and have no motivation, and thus can't be reasoned with and only slaughtered together with the "civilians they hide amongst as human shields." Dems spat when Domingo Monterrosa, the Butcher of El Mozote, spewed this crap: why not Israel? is it one-sided coverage of un-secular, wild-eyed suiciders appearing out of nowhere and killing half a busload? is it "they're BOTH at fault" cliches, maudlin tearjerking about "Man's eternal warlike nature," and calls to separate all parents from their children, all of which wholly acquiesce to that one-sided coverage? is it 40s left-liberal support for the creation of Israel springing from anti-Nazism and a view of Palestinians/Arabs as "backward" obstacles? Melani McAlister's narrative of Israel as an Ersatz for America, except that its Vietnams and Iran Hostage Crises always end in success (and, by implication, further justification)? is it the old saws of "right to exist" and "right to defense," and if that's the case, why hasn't Germany been split, the USSR reunited, and Manchuria and Korea returned to being Japanese colonies, since those states all had those rights? if it's "the right of conquest," why haven't Sarkozy, Berlusconi, Harald V, Margrethe II, Beatrix, Albert II, Jan Fischer, Werner Faymann, Ivan Gašparovič, Viktor Orbán, Ivo Josipović, Nikola Špirić, Fatmir Sejdiu, Boris Tadić, Borut Pahor, Gjorge Ivanov, Bamir Topi, Bamir Topi, Boyko Borisov, Traian Băsescu, Vlad Filat, Yanukovich, Lukashenka, Andrius Kubilius, Valdis Dombrovskis, Valdis Dombrovskis, and Medvedev apologized for resisting Germany's right to their countries and turned their governments over to Merkel? "they want to decapitate us" has happened to less than 10 people, and "drive us into the sea" was never invoked in Manchukuo, Silesia, and East Prussia...

22. NY Times censorship alert!
The story at the link was replaced with one that omits the following:

The Cihan news agency reported that Mr. Dogan had one bullet in the chest and four bullets fired into his head from close range.

23. ABC News have not edited it out
A U.S. citizen who lived in Turkey is among the nine people killed when Israeli commandos stormed a Turkish aid ship heading for the Gaza Strip, officials said today. The victim was identified as Furkan Dogan, 19, a Turkish-American. A forensic report said he was shot at close range, with four bullets in his head and one in his chest, according to the Anatolian news agency.

Dogan was a high school student studying social sciences in the town of Kayseri in central Turkey. He was born in Troy, N.Y., and moved to Turkey at the age of 2. He will be buried in his hometown tomorrow.
