(Reuters) - BP Plc. (BP.L)'s chief executive Tony Hayward will make a public statement shortly, a company spokesman said on Thursday.

Is what BP did substantively any different than what Exxon and Shell and Texaco and Chevron and so on are all doing right this instant? To my way of thinking, the biggest crooks in this situation are our elected officials who allowed BP, and are allowing other oil companies even as we speak, to engage in risky activities so prejudicial to the public interest.
