Maytag recalling almost 2 million dishwashers over fire concerns
Source: Associated Press

Maytag Corp. is recalling about 1.7 million dishwashers because of a fire hazard.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission, which announced the recall Thursday, says the company has received 12 reports of electrical failures in the dishwasher heating element that led to fires and damage.

One kitchen fire caused extensive damage, the agency said. No injuries have been reported.

The recall includes Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley brand dishwashers with plastic tubs. The recalled dishwashers were made with black, bisque, white, silver and stainless steel front panels and sold at department and appliance stores nationwide from February 2006 through April 2010. They cost between $250 and $900.

2. I wish they'd recall their duet front-load washer over the leaking door issue.
We've had leaks almost from day one and they can never fix it. Ended up replacing some carpeting due to mold problems.

4. I have one of the low Maytag dishwashers that will hold cooky sheets.
I despise it, as it doesn't rinse like it should. I hope mine is one that gets recalled.

5. ASbout 6 or 7 years ago the same thing did happen to those Whirlpool
dish washers. We lived in an apartment and the company that owned the complex had to replace all of them.
