US seeks new ways to deal with Gaza after boat raid: Biden
Source: AFP

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt — The United States is seeking new ways to deal with blockaded Gaza, Vice President Joe Biden said in Egypt on Monday as regional tensions mounted over Israel's deadly raid on an aid convoy.

"We are consulting closely with Egypt, as well as our other partners, on new ways to address the humanitarian, economic, security and political aspects of the situation in Gaza," he after meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

The two leaders held 90 minutes of talks in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Biden's visit came after a naval operation by US ally Israel on May 31 that killed nine people on an aid ship headed for Gaza and threatened to stall US-brokered proximity talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

8. Joe has been around long enough to influence, and be influenced by, many.
Perhaps that would be the most "diplomatic" way to put it.

3. Iran also has a right to protect it's security interests. This is going to damage those talks too.

5. Whose blockade is this that Israel is trying to enforce - their blockade? UN?
Down with the blockade! Has Israel put up the sea wall? Isn't this about tearing down this wall while affirming Israel's fears. Why their military? Why is their military taking on policing roles with all the technology of warriors? While some countries like the US just blink?

Show us your mettle, VP Biden!

9. Yesterday, Senator Kerry was on This Week
He was asked about the blockade. In asking his question, Tapper referred to the time in 2009 when Kerry went to Gaza to see the damage and when he found out that pasta was being rejected for entry - raised the issue of why it was not allowed with the Israelis, who backed down and allowed the pasta in. His answer spoke of the US trying to change what could come in. It is good to see that the Obama administration is working to improve the situation.

If the blockade could be reduced to just checking for weapons, this will make life for the Palestinians better. It will be a victory for those wanting the blockade broken - from the flotilla participants to liberal Jews represented by J Street.

Here's a link to Kerry's comments. http://tinyurl.com/JKJCTW2

11. Kerry's comments are among the best I've seen

but the other MA Senator is among the worst.

U.S. Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts says Americans should stand together in "unwavering commitment" to Israel in the wake of a deadly commando raid on ships taking aid to the Gaza Strip.

The Republican Brown was the keynote speaker Sunday night at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee leadership dinner in Boston.

He says he was disappointed that so many condemned Israel after the raid without considering Israel is at war with Gaza. He says Israel is one of the United States' greatest allies against jihad and says Israel is not a liability to America.
