WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More than 400 people accused of having ties to trafficking for Mexican drug cartels were arrested in 16 U.S. states on Wednesday, U.S. authorities said on Thursday.

As part of the latest sweep, 429 people were arrested and nearly 3,000 pounds (1,360 kg) of marijuana, 247 pounds (112 kg) of cocaine, $5.8 million in U.S. currency and 141 weapons were seized, the Justice Department and Drug Enforcement Administration said.

The suspects were charged with various offenses, including conspiracy and distribution of illegal drugs such as cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamines.

The sweep is the latest effort by Mexico and the Obama administration to try to clamp down on drug trafficking along the border where violence has escalated. Pressure has grown on the two governments to tackle the problems.

4. Agree with...
...Legalize it.

Disagree with the Pigs part. Most cops (My family has several and know many others) would LOVE to see marijuana be legalized. It is the god damned politicians that keep the laws enforced.

Prohibition does not work. Hopefully, California will show us the way this fall.

8. True enough that most cops want pot legalized.
It's an absurd waste of their time.

I refer to them as pigs because I believe the vast majority of them are sadistic bullies.

The 99% of bad cops ruin it for all the rest. (IMO)

6. Actually, heroin is pretty safe, if used properly.
Deaths occur from overdose, or black market factors. The drug itself is relatively safe, provided you know how much you are actually getting in a dose.

Of course, it is very physically addicting, but that only comes into play if you run out. :smoke:

9. Not everyone. Adults who choose to use it.
All this prohibition bullshit is fairly recent. These plants have been used forever. Cannabis, opiates, mushrooms, fermented grapes, all kinds of stuff.

Humans like to change their perception for recreational and/or spiritual reasons. That's not likely to change anytime soon. Harm reduction should be the goal.

I don't understand why things that make us feel good should be outlawed, other than the fact that puritanical assholes want them to be.

Cannabis hemp for example, could be the answer to all of our energy needs, but we aren't allowed to pursue the technology because it's more potent sister makes humans feel real good.

It's totally absurd!

10. Fucking Mexican cartels.
Who kidnap women and sell them for profit; and gun down rivals and innocent civilians in cold blood.

I think your rage is misplaced.

11. My rage is placed dead on at the phony drug wars.
Kidnapping and human trafficing are not the same as drug crimes.

You do understand that eliminating the black market for drugs would take away the profit motive for gangs, don't you? That's harm reduction.

DEA and narcs from whatever other agency are fucking pigs.

19. The same cartels that peddle drugs are human smugglers and murderers.
Edited on Thu Jun-10-10 06:05 PM by chrisa
I do not agree with the drug war. However, these cartels have caused so much suffering that I only wish them the worst. These dealers are giving these cartels money, allowing them to buy the weapons they use to kill and kidnap. We need legitimate, government regulated drug sellers, rather than cartel-supporting gangsters.

I agree with your second point. We need to at least legalize pot to cut the knees out from these cartels.

18. Pigs because they are narcs. Narcs are scum.
The DEA is one of the most corrupt government agencies, and that's saying a lot.

The phony drug wars are bullshit. They keep the prices high so the big shots can profit. The Bush crime family was/is up to their eyeballs in drug dealing. (along with the CIA and yes, the fucking DEA).

Do you understand that legalization would stop drug cartels in their tracks, and put the corrupt, sadistic, mutherfuckers in the DEA out of business too?

Most cops are pigs. All narcs are pigs.

3. Monterrey a Battleground after Top Zeta Captured
<snip>

"Hector Raul Luna Luna aka "Tori", the head of the Zetas drug cartel for the state of Nuevo Leon was arrested by the Mexican Army in the city of Monterrey, after which armed attacks and road blockages occurred throughout the city. El “Tori” worked under Miguel Trevino Morales (L-40), one of the top 2 leaders of the Zeta drug cartel.

The Ministry of Defence, SEDENA, confirmed the arrest after a confrontation with the military.

According to neighbors, “el Tori” was captured around 4:30 PM in a house located in the Barrio Colonia Estrella in northwest Monterrery.

Minutes after his detention, a military convoy supposedly repelled an attack by gunmen, after which about 5:30 PM a series of blockades were thrown up by armed street gang thugs who hijacked buses, tractor trailers, cars and pick-ups throughout the metropolitan area.

The vehicles were then placed at main intersections across the roadways in order to block access. Some of the main roadways such as Fidel Velazquez had up to different 4 blockages in place."
