Montana Gov. Agrees Change Needed in Marijuana Law
Montana gov. says voters didn't envision today's medical marijuana issues, advocates changes
The Associated Press
By MATT GOURAS Associated Press Writer
HELENA, Mont. June 10, 2010 (AP)

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer says legalization of medical marijuana has not worked out as voters planned, and agrees the state needs a legislative fix.

Schweitzer says he is watching proposals as they come forward and expects lawmakers, convening in January, will have a lot of options. The governor says one of his agencies may pitch its own plan.

Schweitzer says one part of the solution could be to require genetic branding of medical marijuana, which would allow police to trace illegal pot to see if it originated from a caregiver selling medical marijuana.

The medical marijuana law has become one of the hottest topics facing lawmakers as the state deals with an explosion in the number of patients, caregivers and growers.

8. wouldn't genetic branding be expensive
just seems like it would be unless you had one source for all the MM in Montana

and who is going to pay for the testing of all the pot that's seized by the cops? the taxpayers?

3. I put pot on the same level as alcohol...
...a good thing if used in moderation, when it's appropriate.

I just don't think it has to be fought tooth and nail at every turn.

Honestly, our people have been using it freely for decades and there wouldn't be a lot of psychological change if it were openly tolerated.

Just the same, I wouldn't want people going to work stoned anymore than I'd want them going to work drunk, although I've met a few people who use it to their advantage. They mostly do a job that nobody want's to do and are willing to look the other way when it comes to how they do it, day in and day out.

they are only mad because people are actually doing what the law intended.. growing and using medical mj.

the fears are all based on prohibitionist lies as usual.
caregivers only sell to thier legal patients, and patients do what they will.

no companies wanted to take the risk of producing due to federal implications, so everything was left to those who are users. now they are actually doing it and panic ensues. now companies are wanting in the action more and i suspect that has more to do with the "changes" as well
