BP accused of 'lack of integrity' by US House speaker
Source: BBC

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has accused BP of a "lack of integrity" when making its case for deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

"It is clear that there was a lack of integrity on the part of BP when it came to what it told us about the adequacy of their technology, the sufficiency of blow-out prevention and the capacity to clean up," Speaker Pelosi said.

Addressing reporters at the White House, she agreed with calls for BP to suspend its dividend to ensure that compensation is paid to Gulf oil spill victims.

Mr Obama said he and congressional leaders had agreed that they should look at how to update US law to ensure victims of the Gulf oil spill were protected.

1. We agree, Madame Speaker - lack of integrity and an excess of duplicity. nt

2. That is a "light" accusation IMHO. They are guilty of possibly wiping out species.

3. How much can be expected from our corporate owned government?

For us minor appeasement.

9. I don't know, it might be a legal term---any lawyers out there?
The US and BP are going to be entangled in a web of lawsuits and countersuits, IMO, over liability. After all, federal permits were approved for the drilling. However, if the permits were approved based on BP's LIES, aka "lack of integrity," BP won't have a legal leg to stand on when they say, "YOU, US government, approved this rig."

Totally agree, though, this is not the time to be nice and civil to major criminals and murderers.

5. Hell, yes, that's exactly what they did!
Because of their lies, and subsequent inability to deal with the disaster they've caused, our Gulf is being killed by their toxins. Never, ever trust a corporation to do what's in the better interest of anything or one other than their share holders. EVER! Oh, and let science decide if their disaster plans are applicable. Not some lunacy which lays out how to deal with walruses, sea otters, sea lions and seals in the Gulf.

I'll give her a pass on the language though. Only because I believe it would case hysterics for her to use language I would. Which would detract from the real message here.

6. Correct...
Look how much flack Obama got for "asses to kick." The RW are on the verge of hysteria 24/7 just waiting for Pelosi to say something they can become outraged over.

If we ever see BP go to trial, we'll revisit the hysteria and demonization of trial lawyers. The stage is set.
