Florida candidate Rubio seeks to stave off foreclosure
Source: Yahoo News

Florida GOP Senate candidate Marco Rubio is defending his personal finances amid word that a home he co-owns with a state congressional hopeful has gone into foreclosure.

According to the Palm Beach Post's Michael C. Bender, Rubio and state Rep. David Rivera were sued this week in Florida after skipping five months of mortgage payments on a Tallahassee house the two jointly purchased in 2005. Rubio, then a member of the Florida House, and Rivera shared the property when both were in Tallahassee for state business. Rivera is now running for the GOP nomination in Florida's 25th Congressional District.

According to a filing with the Leon County clerk's office, Deutsch Bank National Trust initiated foreclosure proceedings June 11 after the pair stopped making mortgage payments in February. Rubio and Rivera purchased the house for $135,000 back in March 2005. According to court documents, the balance of their mortgage today is $134,795. An online real estate listing shows the three-bedroom home currently priced at $136,500, having gone on the market in April.

Rubio's campaign tells the Miami Herald the two candidates stopped making monthly payments because of a dispute with the bank over mortgage terms. According to a letter the campaign provided to the Herald, the two paid $9,525 to the bank Thursday to cover the late payments — though the payment has yet to be reflected in any court filings, and the property still remains in foreclosure proceedings.

8. Please let that be the case.
If so, at least we would know that God has a sense of humor.

15. how many times does God have to out the closet-cases who bash on GLBT people for profit before you
see there's a since of humor from Him!? LOL

It wouldn't surprise me in the least - there's so many of them in the GOP! One thing I can't stand is someone who rails against Gay people when they're living a secret life; so shameful!

11. I wouldn't jump to that conclusion, but would love to believe it
This isn't an uncommon arrangement among legislators and others who need permanent out of town accommodations.

I jointly own a house in Canada with a woman I work with, it just made more sense than pissing away our out of town housing allowances at the Extended Stay Suites for years on end, the combined allowance more than covers the mortgage, taxes and utilities and when were done here we walk away with cash.

9. It's not a very big house - 1228 sq. ft.
And they only paid $135,000 for it in 2005. Current market value for taxation is under $115,000.

Warning - the GIS map feature from that page does not play well with Firefox. Oh, it's down for maintenance right now anyway.

Google Maps of the house: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=&q=&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGLL_enUS375US375&ie=UTF-8

They chose the lot with the most trees - the house is not visible from the air and there is no street view in that neighborhood.

10. I got a street view. I know the neighborhood. Older owners and rentals homes. Modest.
It's also a straight shot to the Capital. No more than a 5 min drive.

16. I used to keep my horse a bit up the Parkway from that neighborhood
Long before there was much development along there - it was thirty five years ago! (Damn that makes me feel old.) But I am no longer familiar with all the neighborhoods in Leon County. Frankly, I seldom leave my farm anymore.

That is a good location for commuting to the Capital. Far enough out that the morning traffic won't make the left turn out a pain, but close enough that the drive is short. I just don't get how someone in his position would get so far behind on payments. But that is pretty much how Republicans like to run the government, get into debt and let someone else clean up the mess.

12. So odd to see these two high-profile rabid right-wing Cuban "exiles" having financial problems.
Rubio's housemate, David Rivera has been hot to control Cuban immigrants' comings and going to Cuba by pushing legislation designed to sweep away their sweet US-taxpayer-provided perks (which we were never given a choice in providing) the minute it becomes known that any of them is discovered to have gone back to visit Cuba for any reason!
~snip~
A Miami Republican who prodded President Bush to get tougher on Fidel Castro is one-upping the president: He's proposing to strip food stamps and health insurance from those who travel to the island.

Dubbed the "Travel and Commerce with Terrorist Nations Act," a bill proposed by State Rep. David Rivera, R-Miami, would punish those who travel -- even legally -- to Cuba by cutting off access to Medicaid, food stamps and housing assistance for a year.

Rivera said the legislation is aimed at stopping recent arrivals who come to the United States, apply for benefits and then travel back to visit Cuba.

Though such travel is legal, Rivera argues that the money spent on the island only helps prop up Cuban leader Castro.

"It's an issue of gratitude," Rivera said at a news conference Tuesday. "People are sick and tired of people living here, taking advantage of taxpayer generosity and then providing financial support to the Castro regime by traveling back to the island."

In regard to riding herd of OTHER Cubans in the U.S., Rivera has been totally FOCUSED on monitoring THEIR finances. How could he let his own house get away from him?

David Rivera's Wiki:
David Rivera is a Miami, Florida Public Affairs Consultant and Republican politician who serves as the representative for District 112 of the House of Representatives of the State of Florida. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2002. He is the chair of the Full Appropriations Council on Education & Economic Development. he was first elected in 2002 and successively reelected in 2004 and 2006.

Representative Rivera was born in New York City on September 16, 1965 and moved to Florida in 1974. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Florida International University in 1986 and his MPA in 1994. He has had a varied career in government. He served as a legislative assistant for Senator Connie Mack. He worked for United States Information Agency as an Administrator, was a senior advisor to the U. S. ambassador to the United Nations on the Human Rights Commission, and now works as a public affairs consultant.

In addition to his legislative office, he has served the Republican Party as State Committeeman for the Republican Party of Florida and as the Executive Director for the Republican Party of Miami-Dade County. In January 2009 he filed to run for the state senate seat being vacated by J. Alex Villalobos. <1> However, when neighboring U.S. Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart decided not to run for another term in 2010, his brother, local Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, opted to run for a new term in Lincoln's district rather than his current one. This prompted Rivera to drop his State Senate campaign and on February 25, 2010 announced he would instead be a candidate for U.S. Congress in Florida's 25th district.

Marco Rubio's Wiki reveals Rubio supports the Arizona immigration law, and continues to support off-shore drilling! He also seems keen on cracking the whip on other people, and you wouldn't expect him to let his financial reputation slide, either.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marco_Rubio

Is it possible these two, since they both are planning to move to Washington if they win their respective elections, are letting their house slide in light of their belief they are not going to be there, anyway?

Even if that's the case, you wouldn't expect people who live in the public eye to do something this shoddy, unless they feel their political pals have Florida more or less under control and they can literally get by with anything.

David Rivera’s new law: He continues to steal from taxpayers

Wednesday, 07 April 2010 08:22 Alvaro F Fernandez

David Rivera never ceases to amaze me. The guy is a walking campaign poster. And if getting elected makes you a good politician, then he’s a good politician. But other than the fact that his antics seem to help him at the polls, the not so gentle-man from Miami may be one of the worst lawmakers the state of Florida may have ever seen.

I say worst because Rivera will spare no tax dollar (that’s right, OUR money!) in order to propose crazy laws in the legislature that ultimately have gone nowhere, helped no one (other than David), and in the end have cost Florida taxpayers big dollars. Case in point is the failed law struck down by the courts that imposed high fees on companies booking flights to Cuba. It cost the state millions to defend itself against those being affected, and in the end, the state lost. Any legal scholar could have (and did) warn Rivera the law would go nowhere.

Rivera is the Florida legislature’s budget chief. Imagine that! It’s like having a crack addict in charge of the family budget. Think about it, Rivera in charge of our dollars at a time when the state is looking for billions to make ends meet…

This year’s Rivera antic entails prohibiting the state from distributing a "virtual stamp of approval" on goods being exported from Florida to Cuba. As described by St. Petersburg Times columnist Robert Samuels, “The ‘certificate of free sale’ is a written document that guarantees a product that claims to be manufactured in Florida really is manufactured here and isn't a bootlegged product.”

Rivera called his law a “priority.” In response, Terence McElory, spokesman for the state's Agriculture Department, which regulates the issuance of the certificates told Samuels, “There's not a lot of trade going on there, as you can imagine.” Samuels’ conclusion regarding the law is right on: “While the policy impact of Rivera's proposal is a little hazy, the politics seem clear: Rivera is seeking support for his congressional run in a district that is heavily Cuban-American.”

Jeb Bush hosting fundraiser for Marco Rubio
Jeb Bush is hosting his first Marco Rubio fundraiser Tuesday.

"How nice of JEB! to keep selling Florida government favors even though he is out of office. His personal poodle (Lil Marco) is happily tugging at his master's leash for more financial kibbles and treats. The Bushies have no shame when it comes to looting public funds for their friends."]blockquote]http://blogs.tampabay.com/buzz/2010/05/jeb-bush-hosting-fundraiser-for-marco-rubio.html

What a bonus, having the mighty Bush machine standing behind Rubio! Maybe Jeb Bush should have also had a fundraiser for Rubio so he could pay his mortgage.

17. You can SMELL the hypocrasy a mile away.
Who remembers the Whitewater Development Corp., Web Hubbbell, Madison Guarantee, the Rose Law Firm?

The right was screaming bloody murder...Special Prosecuters, Congressional hearings, indictments, etc.

That situation was a *tiny* microcosm ($82 million) of what is going on today. Where is the outrage now?

Recently, in Florida, Bills in the House and Senate were introduced (with heavy lobbying support $$$$$$ from the FL Bankers Association) that would change Florida'a status from "Judicial" to "Non-Judicial".

The banksters will be back, but a group of volunteers ( http://www.foreclourehamlet.org ) showed up on the steps of the Capital Building in Tallahassee and shut them down.

We even created a little website for the sponsor and ramrod of the Senate Bill ---> http://pigsass.org

Today there is a foreclosure sale every 90 seconds, read today's Sunday Morning Stinker:

If you want to get involved....

Join us: http://www.foreclosurehamlet.org

The same "blame the homeowner" turds will be standing in line to vote for Rubio! (holding my nose)

Floridians we are hosting a little gathering....

Boca Raton, FL, 6/25/10 Hero Appreciation Day for Slayers of Illegal Foreclosures! Seminars! Networking! Fraudulent Document Graveyard!

http://www.foreclosurehamlet.org/events/pbc-fl-hero-appreciation-day

I know Boca Raton is the rich part of town but that is where the FL Bar holds there Suarez...so that's where we'll be.

18. He might have to stave off the FBI and IRS before too long
There are reports that he, among other Florida GOP legislators, were using their state credit cards for personal use, racking up tens of thousands in charges.
