Man Critically Injured, Two Others Shot During San Francisco Gay Pride "Pink Saturday" Event
Source: KTXL

Three people have been shot during a gay pride event in San Francisco known to attract tens of thousands of people.

The shooting took place late Saturday evening along the 2300 block of Market Street in front of "The Cafe," a popular gay nightclub. A teenage male sustained life-threatening injuries and two other individuals were wounded.

A 19-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the shooting and a weapon was recovered, KGO-AM reported.

Though a motive was not immediately known, eyewitnesses near the scene suggested the gunfight erupted due to a personal conflict and was not related to the area's event.

3. He was armed
and look how well that turned out.
As a gay man who has been denied his right to marry my husband of 24 years, you do not want to give ME a gun. I would return the hatred in spades.

28. Believe me, there is nobody who wants to
'give' you a gun, nor anyone who advocates giving anyone a gun.

9. Yes! Thousands more guns going off during the incident would've insured
...far fewer injuries!

10. Basic Firearm Safety Rule #4 - Be sure of your target and what's beyond it
If everyone follows the rules, no innocent bystanders get hurt.

The rules should be taught in public schools.

13. Basic common sense rule #1: Tens of thousands of armed people at a celebration
...responding to an initial shooting, tends not to "minimize" injuries...

4. My local newspapers advertised the "Pride" events
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 08:43 AM by rocktivity
but if they were REALLY proud, shouldn't they have been called "GAY Pride" events?

22. Nah,
'gay' in San Francisco is so ubiquitous, so accepted and so non controversial that it's use in this context completely redundant. At least my take on it, as a native, is that it's a victory in that the focus is on 'pride' rather than 'gay'. Gay is no big deal, just it's cool to have a specific day/weekend to celebrate, commemorate victories won and build spirits to regain losses suffered (proposition H8). At least in the perspective of this hetero native who has always been in solidarity with and proud of the GLBT community, 'cause I did notice and wonder the same thing at first, it seems more like declaring victory.

Also, my father is a gun owner who hasn't shot anyone since Vietnam and he taught me how be a responsible gun owner. I've been a gun owner half my life and I've never shot anyone.

8. Funny how quickly every report of a shooting-related tragedy
devolves into a fight between pro- and anti-gun purists.

For once, can't we just say what a shame it is that some people got shot?

19. Arranging For As Many Guns To Be In The Hands Of As Many People As Possible....
...is the fundamental, driving principle of the gun rights movement in this country. Daily proof of this is available every day in the DU Guns forum.

And about that firearms instruction in schools thing you never tire of advocating: where is the money coming from for such a gun rights wet dream? The public schools aren't exactly awash in cash, these days. Would you be willing to cut certain existing programs to get the NRA's Eddie Eagle installed in our schools, and if so, which programs would you do away with? Extra points for an honest answer......

23. You're comparing a right to....
government program? It's not about always running around armed, it's about the right to self defense. There is absolutely nothing in any law that allows using guns to settle differences. These visions of everyone running around armed are pure fantasy and boogeyman stories. The anti-gun hype is as ridiculous as the "always be armed" hype. Neither argument is a good substitute for common sense.

29. Uh, no
individual rights is the driving principal of the gun rights movement in this country. Point to specific instances of 'daily proof' that anyone in the guns forum is advocating "as many guns to be in the hands of as many people as possible".

The idea of a liberal interpretation of all of the bill of rights is the overwhelming message of 2nd Amendment supporters, and conservative interpretation, even to the point of repeal, is the ongoing meme of the gun control crowd....now remind me which side actually sounds more Liberal and/or Progressive?
