Records show Greene's military flops
Source: Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Surprise U.S. Senate nominee Alvin Greene of South Carolina says he's an "American hero" and frequently mentions his 13 years of military service.

But records obtained by The Associated Press Thursday show that Greene was considered a lackluster service member at best and was denied two promotions. The records cite mistakes as severe as uploading sensitive information improperly, and as basic as an overall inability to clearly express his thoughts and perform basic tasks.

Greene won a surprise victory in the June 8 Democratic primary. He often mentions his service but has refused to go into detail.

Greene left the U.S. Air Force six months after his second promotion request was denied. He later served in the U.S. Army and left the military last year.

2. Ahhh South Carolina

working hard to take the "You Really Can't Be This Stupid" title in politics for decades.

Fortunately, for everyone, Greene doesn't have a shot in hell at this thing. I can only imagine the damage this guy could do to the Democratic Party if he did manage to become a Senator. He's less coherent than Strom Thurmond was in his last 4 or 5 years.

on edit: He probably wouldn't be much worse than Jim Demented on the crazy train though.

4. all the stories I've seen
Said that he was "honorably but involuntarily discharged" from the Army. This means that he didn't do anything wrong, he just couldn't do anything right.

6. "didn't do anything wrong, he just couldn't do anything right" sounds like Senator material to me.
Of course, if he did everything wrong and couldn't do anything right he'd be a Republican.

That's the really odd part. Unless it's already been answered.

10. He was investigated
by the State Law Enforcement Division, since he had declared indigency months ago in order to get a public defender for his obscenity charge. They cleared him, saying he had used his tax refund and could have saved enough from his unemployment checks if his family was supporting him.

23. Actually I got the numbers wrong. Here ya go...
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH, AP) -- South Carolina's top cop says his agents looked through Alvin Greene's bank records and found no large unexplained deposits by the surprise Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.

State Law Enforcement Division Chief Reggie Lloyd told The Associated Press on Friday that Green had one deposit of $6,000 in October for his military exit pay and a $3,000 deposit early this year for state and federal tax refunds.

Greene paid his $10,440 filing fee with a handwritten check in March.

SLED agents decided Friday not to charge Greene over how he paid his filing fee or how he presented his financial situation when he was appointed a public defender on a felony obscenity charge.

Greene says he is vindicated by SLED's decision.

CNN also reports Friday that Greene has retained a private criminal defense attorney for a pending felony charge.

13. The NPR story on him was almost frightening.
His first major speech was to a monthly NAACP meeting. Before he was called up to speak, according to the NPR reporter, he sat completely still on the stage, staring straight ahead. He spoke in generalities, for less than half his alloted time, at one point making a veiled allusion to his legal troubles. After his speech ended, he left.

14. Democrats should push for an investigation as to whether Republicans committed electoral fraud
I don't think it's likely that fraud was committed in order to pit Greene, a weak candidate, against the Republican Demint.

No, not really.

Okay, maybe.

Did he write his daily "To-Do" list on his hand?

Really, if this guy could speak clearly, he'd be Sarah Palin.

28. I'd be willing to throw a few bucks at him
even if it is a long shot at getting rid of Demint. So the guy's no Einstein, he might actually remember the little people after he made it to Washington. If nothing else, just think of the entertainment value of someone so politically "green" thrust into the Gentleman's Club....

NOT campaigning seems to be have worked for him so far.

Sharon Angle wishes that plan would work for her.
