Baucus, Tester Vote to Block Lawsuit Against Arizona
Source: Flathead Beacon

Montana Democratic Sens. Max Baucus and Jon Tester joined Republicans Wednesday in voting to block the Justice Department from moving forward in its lawsuit against Arizona’s immigration law.

The amendment, which was sponsored by Republican Sens. Jim DeMint, Arkansas, and David Vitter, Lousiana, failed on a 43-55 vote. Along with Montana’s senators, three other Democrats supported the measure: Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas; and Ben Nelson of Nebraska: From the Associated Press:

2. I think it's just posturing
Justice is an Executive function. More red meat for the tea party.

If I am wrong, we are truly done for.

5. Montana isn't a bastion of progressive thinking
In such situations, some members of Congress make sure the bill in question will pass no matter what, and then
make a "posturing" vote that their right-wing opponents at home can never toss in their faces to embarrass them
in the eyes of the right-wing majority voters in their states.

10. Yes and no...

Have you ever heard the Governor of Montana speak? He speaks occasionally on MSNBC and also spoke at the Democratic Convention. He is very progressive and as outspoken as Congressman Alan Grayson. I don't know what the hell Baucus's problem is.

Edit = typo

17. Not only have I heard him speak
I was there in the hall in Denver when he did. He is quite a public speaker, too.

He's good, but one of the reason he is, is that "all politics are local" and he knows the ropes. So does Tester, who
is still in his first term. I don't know what kind of contaminated water Baucus drinks, but I think Tester would never
have voted this way without Reid's blessing. It's an old Senate (and House) tactic that permits reps to vote against
their own consciences, but to play to a local audience, as long as their party leader or whip is positive he or she
doesn't need that particular vote to assure a victory.

6. I still haven't endorsed anyone for the Arkansas senate race yet
(course, I don't live in Arkansas so it's all symbolic)

But I remain neutral. My support is us for grabs.

12. I think the senate
has more in this fight than Bolivia, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Peru.
Should be none of their business. They should have no standing in a US court.
